that first photo was very sad . a neighbour was killed in that accident , ran away down upper hulme village before it was bypassed , about 1950 , i was only a nipper then . the whole street was in mourning , fatal accidents were very uncommon then . dave

Thanks for that info Dave has you say very sad when something of that nature happens. Was the neighbour the driver or a pedestrian?

Heres one of Sammys lime spreaders.

Tommy Johnson, (always there to cause a bit of chaos), Steve Skinner, Jim Fairbanks (back of his head) Frank Goodwin, John Harry Watson (complete with deerstalker hat) J.D. Wayne with his back to the camera ? Richard Hambleton ( must be waiting to get loaded as he wouldn’t be sat on that car bonnet for any other reason)

Come on Windrush fill in some of the blanks, you never know we may well even get a guest appearance from Malmic, I think at the time he was in negotiations with SENIOR MANAGEMENT.

And the ring leaders were…?

Can’t help you there Rob, not the clearest of pics alas and we were not really involved with it being company drivers. Maybe Maurice and John Wheeldon, John Webster and Roy Derbyshire could be there? It must have been quite a novelty for JD and Chewy to be stationary for that amount of time though! Barnett and Grahams tank (good lads, always had a chat with them when sheeting up and they were pleasant enough) and it looks like Jim Banks Foden as Jim wouldn’t need much of an excuse to get parked up. Saxa was probably up in the office negotiating, possibly with Tommy Babb or Dave Wigley? Maybe he will tell all, he has been quiet lately!

Pete.

Why would Barnett & Grahams tank lads be sheeting up Pete,

Oh, just realised they are from the sheeting up capital of the U.K.

If they dared to venture north of Carnforth with no sheet on, tank or no tank load, Dennis would be hollowing over the hills at them about letting the traditions of the county down!

Very good Robert but it was me sheeting up, ME! :unamused:  Agree with you about Dennis though, now I realise why B & G had rope hooks on their tanks!

Pete.

Hello Pete .yes i was with Tony Kent on that morning up in the office.I prefer not to think about it as the whole thing aged me about 10 years.People said to me we’re behind you Mick to which my reply was yes but how far behind.
