0who is this ? It’s not my Dad and I don’t think its Wally Hickmot.

this is definitely David Bradbury he lived at Green farm Ashbourne but of late ran a skip business at Kilbourne He died earlier this year

Now I HAVE heard that name mentioned in the distant past, at last we finally have an ID for the gentleman. Was/is Green Farm the one at the end of Green Road where the road forks?

Pete.

hi P W Farm is 50 or so yards at top end of Green Road After houses on left Dave worked in the. Building that became H Stubbs tyre stores servicing Muir Hill dumpers Regards Barry ex Quarry garage

mobil1:
to correct P W 4 Fodens were driven by Frank piney Mellor Fred Morley Dennis Glover and Frank Jeffries 2Atki hyload 40s were driven by Roy Goodhead and George Mason from new The Wibberley twins only ever drove Muir Hills Roy and Ted Beresford had T K scow end tippers on the tar pots and the tanker driver on tar pots was Lol Goldstraw There were also 3Atki hyload 30sAtki 40s had zf 6sp gearbox and ■■■■■■■ 220 engines 30s had D Brown gearbox and Gardner 150 engines Alan Wibberley also drove fuel cart a Bedford O M at that time Aound 1968

Thank’s for that, I rebuilt the engine on ‘Piney’ Mellors Foden (did he only have one eye?) and it was Fred, not Frank, Morley of course. Dont recall Frank Jeffries. I forgot about Dennis Glover (Patsy) I think he had a Barford later along with Vic Watson who was driving the one that ran away and flattened a car and the tyre shed! George Mason was on a dumper (presumably a Foden) when I started (1975) and Roy and Ted were both on the Atkinsons then (or later perhaps?) and we replaced the ■■■■■■■ engine in one of those and the clutch in the one with the ZF box. Bert Small was in charge of quarry transport with Fred Atwell and yourself Barry. I was told (wrongly it seems) that the Wibbs had a dumper each and the complete rear hub and half shaft came out of one of them and got caught and bent on a steel stanchion while they were racing them, however they had both left when I started and had their own lorries (Alan a KM Bedford and Brian a yellow AEC Mercury) so that might be just a tale.

One of the first jobs I did at Ballidon was rebuilding the engine in Bob Weywells TK Bedford after it fell backwards into the hopper and ran short of oil!
Happy days…I think that what I have written is correct but the old memory isn’t quite what it was you know, you will obviously know better than me as you were directly involved.

Pete.

hiya wasn’t an ERF tipper that alan had… looked like it had big springs on the back. it always looked high at the back
even when loaded it seemed to nose dive…it had a 5 lv cab if i remember right. unless that come later but i was only 23
running out of hulland ward.

Yes Alan did have that ERF John, he also had a KM which possibly came first as I think it was brand new? Malmic might remember. Brian had that yellow Mercury and then a Foden S36 or S39, then he bought an M registered S80 from Ballidon which Sam Hambleton had new and which I believe Alan Alcock drove at Kevin quarry before Brian bought it. Brian was ‘Brown Legger’ on the CB. All a long time ago lad!

This Dave Brad also had the car sales on the bend just up from Tollbar, on the way to Belper on the right, on the bend ?

Great bloke, last time I saw him to speak to, was in Tenerife just before the election that bought Tony B-liar into power :open_mouth:

Its a shock if its the same bloke :frowning:

got up to Teeside steelworks one day with lime, the bloody tipper wouldn’t work iicr the body only went up 2 rams,

Times have changed the days when you delivered a load of milk to the dairy then offloaded the empty churns and loaded 200 bushels of grains by hand shovelled the load off at a farm then back on with the churns ready for morning

I was only a kid a bloke called Archie Bull was the driver he could put more swear words into one sentence than anyone else I knew. I liked Nestles because they were 8 gallon churns a bit lighter than coop dairies 12 gallon churns

You’ve fessed up to something now Mick, was Archie your driving instructor, he certainly taught Gavin a thing or two, all joking on one side I went to a farm in Trusley where they were singing Archie’s praises no end, they said it didn’t matter how canned up he was he could always get that 4D he drove in & out of their yard no problem, to many visits to the allowance table at the brewery no doubt,

This chap should look familiar to you too Mick, the picture was taken at Truemans in Burton, the trouble is he still thinks he can work as hard today as he did back then.

hhhmmmmmmmmmm grains.we used to shovel them on at Blackpool Burnley and Manchester usually straight from the mash tub.
at Burnley we had a long pole to push up the plug. we shoveled straight onto the waggon.
when i did Allied at burton i used to open the shutter and let them go i had a short trailer with high sides. you could put 20 tons on
in 4 mins if you had the nuts to open up the shutter.

greenalls at warrington you pressed a green button to open the hatch then press a red one to stop. then you pulled the red button
out before another red button closed. the amount of drivers opened up stopped but forgot to pull the red button before the last red to close…all this was about 3 maybe 4 mins to have a megga panic. one time the shutter opened and there was a power cut. you couldn’t
close the shutter. the driver was trying to shovel grains on as they was flowing over the side boards he he he.and he though he was the foreman.
