Pdf training day sat

Another successful day at Bretts , Had lovely sunshine for the day as well so no getting wet lol.

Spent the day practicing reversing for me , will be able to know if all sunk in by tues night as have a trunk run up to birmingham to put the skills to the test, think its finally sunk in as Bloodoodles hubby left me with a few pointers about not rushing , (which I know I tend to do !)

Met KittyKat , and scaniason (nice to meet you guys and put names to faces) ,

started with a walk round check that had an artic with 12 defects , ashamed to say i missed one only got 11 , missed that the loadingbars were missing in the trailer  , then they got us all driving , I must say that everyone I saw had big smiles on theyre faces whenever I saw them, so looked like everyone had a good time

A big thank q to all the guys who gave up theyre day off after tramping all week to let us drive around and get some very helpful tips , roping and sheeting was done along with how to secure loads with straps etc ,

Pat thank q so much for a very productive day for me , cant tell u how much i appreciate all the hard work you guys put in there at bretts to help us newbies out ,

hope youve all recovered

Would like to second Jennie’s comments - had a great day out, met some great people, and got to spend some time brushing up on the backwards bits!

Thanks to everybody involved, and look forward to seeing you all again next year

Thanks
Gary

whats a pdf training day

PDF - Professional Drivers Foundation - a charity to help support drivers who need it. Each year they organise a training day at Brett’s Transport at Guyhirn, where, for a small donation to the PDF, you can go along and spend the day learning the sort of things that you nede in the real world, but don’t learn as part of the driving course. For example, on Saturday we covered walk around checks, vision & blindspots from the cab, roping & sheeting, load security, curtains, and lots & lots of reversing! You don’t need a HGV licence to attend, and Brett’s / PDF lay on a brilliant day, with lots of regular drivers who give up their day to help.

Well worth a visit next year!

Gary

Nice meeting you Jennie. It was indeed a great day and not many companies will let newbies and non LGV licence holders drive their lorries so thank you to Bretts for letting us. I really enjoyed having a go at some real world reversing that the training centres don’t teach you. I will most definately be back next year and hopefully by then will be a fully fledged bendy driver with a job or is that wishful thinking? :open_mouth:

Sounds like a fun day out! Glad you all enjoyed it, hopefully if I’m passed my test before next year (assuming it will be held next year of course) i’ll see about going myself. Nice to see a firm taking time out to give back to people.

Cheers

You dont have to have passed your test but when it goes on here give Pat a pm

I would have gone this year but having checked the location on google maps it looked like in the middle of no where :smiling_imp: And I know public transport is as reliable as my line manager keeping promises…But next year I shall be there! Watch this space :grimacing:

Cheers

Jonny this is the perfect day for you , you can drive the veh under supervision and learn tricks of the trade with a lot of things that go with the trucking world , you would love this kind of experience , and belive me with the extention that is going on at wisbech at the mo you wouldnt miss its location it was big enough before gonna be twice the size by next year

Thanks Guys, glad you all enjoyed it :grimacing: :grimacing:

There will be far more room next year with the extension to the yard so more places available.

We’re also looking at doing bacon sarnies and bugers ‘on site’ for lunch as it would be a lot quicker than all going up the cafe

One of our customers is Iceni Water and I’m sure they will supply that for us and I shall have my own Training room next year to brew coffee and do informative posters and demo’s.

Should be good…we can’t wait
