PD Bannister's on agency

Just had the agency asking if I want a shift at the above. Apparently delivering tea bags and soft drinks. …Anyone done it? What kind of runs are they? They are being coy about it, but I’m not looking for store work or multidrop stuff…Based out of Bradford.

Any info greatly appreciated …

Think they do Princess soft drinks out of Bradford, see them a lot in Asda Normanton delivering fruit juices anyway.
I don’t think they’ve the best reputation around to be honest,I was talking to one of they’re drivers a while back,he had a 17 plate Iveco,it used to be one of our fleet motors,he was moaning about gunna run out of time at Asda Normanton,he’d only been there 40 mins so they must plan you up to limit…

This is obviously second hand and shouldn’t be treated as gospel but from what I’ve heard you’ll be better off there as agency because you’ll earn far more than their employed drivers and as a bonus it’s easier to walk (limp) away from as an agency bod.

Cheers for that. Yeah, the hourly rate is decent especially as it’s a Sunday shift. Just wondering if they’re likely to have me shunting locally or longer stuff.
Not planning on working for them for any length of time. Just the odd shift.

Getting fussy in my old age.

They run it to RDC’s,cash&carrys etc, they have trampers on too,Like it’s been mentioned stick to agency with them,if it’s crap you can bin it off,I’ve never heard anything good about them and I’ve spoken to a few of the drivers in past, they advertise a lot.

I would often overtake them on the a74 so there not in that much of a rush , and I often pulled loads out of princess bradford where they’ve lorries / warehouses ( took loads into them ) & I can’t remember the times being any different to anywhere else
As for wages , well we’ve got drivers on this thread calling there wages , but have to do extra shifts , b/h , o/t , tramping to earn a wage themselves so I’d not take a blind bit of notice of them

No one mentioned wages apart from you and tbf I’ve never pulled anyone down for working where it suits them, crap wages or not.
Bannisters have a bad reputation in the Yorkshire area,I’m from that area that’s how I know, you only have to put they’re name into google and it’ll give you a write up of the [zb]ing they got from the Dvsa a couple of year ago,it’s each to there own but I suggested lad would be better on agency then books until he knew what crack was.

We used their yard at Princes for storage a few years ago. We used to dread going in as it is such a dump, the bays are so close together you hit the cab next door when you open your door and there is not much room in front of them so they are a nightmare to back onto if the other bays are full. Used to overhear the transport office on the phone to drivers arranging rescues as out of hours. At that time they also did Seabrooks crisps from the local factory, one guy used to shunt back and forth the the factory (15min drive) all night, so he had the pleasure of using those bays about 8 times a night!

If they were the last haulage company in Britain, Id tear up my license rather than work for them!

You only have to search of this forum to get an idea how bad their reputation was

If its agency though, give it a go. You can always tell them where to shove their keys if you don’t like it!

Many thanks for all the info guys… Really appreciate it.

Tbh… the fact no other driver has picked the shift up sort of says it all really!! I’m speaking with the agency lady later to discuss that and other options… I’ve also found a few Google reviews from ex drivers that dont fill me with anything other than a desire to avoid the place!!

Think I’ll give Bannister’s a miss tbh. Looks too much like hard work to me…

Thanks again… Great help, all of you.

I did two shifts for them.

One was 14 hours 30 and the other 14 hours 50 (9 hours 55 driving).

One truck had no seals in the door so lashed with all the wind and rain that came along later that day and the other had every warning light on the dash appear 5 miles down the road along with dubious brakes. Both were rammed full of trampers kit.

Trailers were very poor, straps missing, holes in curtains etc.

Can’t remember exactly where I went first time except that I ended up in Wisbech at some point. Second was tip London reload Essex  - had to phone in for my reload and nearly took it back empty when they told me.

I was very green at the time but after those 2 shifts I told the agency never again.

Cheers Jimmy, you’ve just fully confirmed my decision to avoid them!! No desire to drive sheds around and work to max hours. 12-13 is enough for me nowadays.

Thanks all, you’re a bloody good bunch! [emoji869]

I live in Grantham but wouldn’t have a clue what brakes / treasures etc pay , as for google something & believe it , I’m 60 not some nieve kid who believes everything they read on the internet

If I was getting paid £250-£300 for a day’s work which is almost a weeks wage for someone in a full time NMW job I’d not give a stuff what it was like as long as it was legal. I could suffer a day of driving a shed for that money for an odd shift now and again.

Oh here we go I’d do owt for £28 an hour or £300 a day. The problem with Bannisters is it usually isn’t legal.

I’d rather have a few quid less and get home in one piece.

if Vosa has been on there case, you can bet your last quid that changes have been made if they want to stay in business
