paypal

So how secure is paypal and is it better set up via debit card or direct from your bank account

I’ve found it very secure.

I have it connected directly to my bank account which then verifies your address. Some sellers require you to have a validated address on your PayPal account.

If you sell something on EBay for example and you are paid by someone with PayPal, the taxes can sting a bit when you come to withdraw the funds to your bank account. Especially if you’ve sold somet for a lot of money.

I have the EBay and PayPal app on my Ipad, just select what I want to buy, press pay and it’s all taken care of. VERY DANGEROUS FOR MY BANK BALANCE THOUGH!!! :unamused:

Always used paypal have never had a problem.

+1

As Will said though, it’s not the cheapest… pro’s / cons… slightly more expensive, but - so far touches wood - 100% secure.

Had a paypal account since they started and its the safest way to pay for things… never had a problem getting my money back when things have gone wrong with stuff not turning up that I have bought. Its the only system i use now :stuck_out_tongue:

we always use paypal on the net , very secure and we use it for money transfers between uk and usa , they only charge about one pound where the bank charges are about 5%of capital .

I’ve used Paypal for years and when buying anything on-line always look to see if I can use Paypal to pay.

I’ve never had any problems security wise, Paypal is a long established and widely used on-line banking system that’s trusted by people with far more knowledge of Internet security than I have so I sort of assume it must be reasonably safe, having said that I do limit how much I keep in my current account which is what Paypal is linked to but that’s just for my own piece of mind rather than any doubts about Paypal.

Never had a problem, reliable service

I use it straight from a bank account that I set up for it. Then when I want to buy an item just transfer some money into that account. Never had a problem.

very secure…HOWEVER…I’ve had some fake emails in the past stating I have paid x amount for an item and if this transaction was not authorised to click on a link in the email. DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK. It will take you to a fake Paypal site where you will enter your passwords and then they will use these to clean out your real paypal account.
Always type the URL into the address box, never click on a link in an email. But I expect you knew that anyway.

Pay pal ■■■■■ balls. They limit your account and hold your .oney for 180 days! Bunch of theiving [zb]s! And secure they are not. Anonymous took them down for 3 days over wiki leaks. Find a different payment processor!

As far as the funds are concerned it makes no difference whether you use your debit card or direct from your account, it’s the same money BUT, if something does go wrong it is harder to sort it out with a debit card as that goes through the VISA system which gives you less control.

What do you actually want to use it for? If it is just to pay for things then you are better off registering a credit card with it and then just paying off the balance when the bill comes in, that way your bank account is safe. If you are setting it up for selling then a separate bank account would be a best option, again to keep your main money safe.

Incidentally, if you do look at alternatives don’t be too tempted by GooglePay, they are even worse than PayPal especially when it comes to try & talk to someone.

even with a visa debit card you can get your money back easier than say using a master card, under the visa name you have the same conditions as a credit card for purchases under visa, not to sure about the master card debit cards that are avaliable :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Paypal is secure for me. I use it to send or receive money away from Ebay too, it isn’t worth transferring small amounts back to your bank account, just leave it in paypal until something crops up.

I had a 21 day sanction on my money for a while but that has now been lifted, not heard of 180 days though, unless that is for new users

Never had a problem spending or getting money with paypal, as oakeedokee says though look out for fake emails.

What like, Western Union :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
Ive used PP since 2003 without any problems whatso ever. Feedback score of nearly a 1000 on fleabay so ive bought and sold one or two bits.

Never had a problem with them at all. :grimacing:

They are the scum of tge earth but thats just based on my experince with them. I had over £5000 in my account and they limites it and wouldnt let me withdraw for 180 days! Im still chasing them for interest payment through my lawyer!

Never had a problem with paypal.
I recently got the paypal debit card as well. It takes money straight from paypal.
I usually use the paypal debit card for online transactions from smaller, unknown sites, and in shops and petrol stations where the pin machine looks iffy. That way, I can block any transactions easily, without effecting my bank, if the card details are swiped.

I wouldn’t touch paypay with a bargepole.

I’ve been online since the mid 1980’s, and always booked with an insured visa card, once I got one in 1988. No commissions. No bullcrap. Card got compromised in a petrol station abroad once, and it cost me nowt. New card was on the doormat by the time I got home a couple of days later. (I had more than one card at the time) I’ve never lost money as a result of using VISA rather than travel cheques or any other commission-based “financial represent”.

I don’t believe in paying commissions to spend my own money, or being buggered about by shysters who think they’ll sit on my transactions, because some git in the back of beyond wants to try it on when being my counterparty. I think my first online transaction was booking a last minute flight to Corfu in 1988 via a prestel advert, a network extensively for travel agents back then.
