I’ve always been paid from the minute I turn up to the minute I leave there’s never been any mention off stopping my wages 45 minutes for the day yet if I’m in the yard at lunch and there’s things to do I do it so it works both ways if my lunch break was stopped I’d happily lay in the cab and sleep so I’m happy with the arrangement I get paid all day and he gets a bit off extra work done a few times a week.

The easiest solution would be to do away with hourly pay.
Day rate, plus night out, plus meal allowance.
If they get done a bit handy, then they get more time off. if they get done handy on a friday, then it’s an early dart.
the firm will be more productive.
There will of course be the moaners that have strung the job out for so many years that they think they are hard done to when they’re still working, and all the rest are down the pub. But they’ll get used to it or leave.
It makes for much easier accounting too. That would suit me, but in the end I would still do more than my work mates as they would just do even less work…in my head I want hourly pay with a tip/load bonus!
I’ve always been on day rate or trip money. I like it, it suits me just fine.
When i was on day rate doing Ireland/UK work. I would go at it from Sunday to Thursday, Then ease off ready for Friday. The boss got used to me. He just laughed, He knew it just wasn’t worth asking me to do too much at the end of the week, But he got his monies worth and more the rest of the time.
There was one lad that would stretch the job out so much that it was a ■■■■ take. He would always end up loading on the south coast every friday and wouldn’t return home until Saturday. He couldn’t way up why it was always him. We tried telling him.
My boss wont pay for my breaks. So i refuse to do anything while im on a break. I go shopping orr have a nap. If someone was climbing in the trailer eo be it. Im notbeing paid so wont do anything work related including answering the work phone. As my boss tells me when i come up with a idea to save money or get a backload ‘‘im not paid to think, im paid to just drive,’’ so i think **** him. When i spilt a air hose i refused to change it so he had to pay for a fitter plus call out. ( i can change a airline and even tyres but should i■■?)
