Hi all, I work for a large builders merchants in Scotland who have put me through my class 2 licence (after I signed a contract) which I passed in November. Since passing I’ve regularly asked about a payrise from what I was getting as a branch assistant but I kept getting fobbed off, so have found a new job and have handed my notice in. Just wondering what the score is with paying the money back? Can thay take the money from my wages at the end of the month? Both the instructors and my tester said I wouldn’t pay anything back, is this right?
Thanks
Roger

It may depend if you have signed any docs or contracts stating you will pay the company for X amount of training Carried out. for example if you leave within the year the training was carried out.
If you haven’t signed paperwork and it wasn’t in your original contract you shouldn’t have to pay.
I believe you signed a contract when you was offered the training, the time to ask about repaying the training fees or a wage rise was before signing a contract, whether or not the company can stop money from your wages will depend on the contract you signed.
As we don’t have access to the contract you signed I don’t see how anyone can advise you on whether or not you will have to repay the training fees, as you work for a large company I’d be a bit surprised if the contract you signed didn’t require repayment of all or part of the training fees if you left within a certain time span, as in another post you mentioned a 2 year contract so I imagine that’s the time you’re expected to stay at the job but I could be wrong.
I got put through class 2 training by my old company, and left after a year, but the understanding was that I would do 2 years after training. Had enough after a year, constantly reminded that we done this and that for you lol. Listen do what you have to do, I’d say they get a grant of some sort for training people so wouldn’t worry about it. If your never going to go back, hand in your notice one week then go on the sick for the reminder
