Pay raise for certain haulier

I was talking to a driver from a well known firm from north of the border the other day, a firm which has been discussed and derided on here in the past quite often, for their low pay rates to drivers (so much so at one point a rep of said co. came on here not very happy about accusations of take over and financial instability, and at the same time tried to justify his rates) he told me that they had been given a pay raise which BROUGHT THEM UP to £7 an hour right through. I know this pay rate subject has been done to death :unamused: , and it’s better than the dole etc etc, but it’s only about 90p above minimum wage, from a firm who appear.(yeh I know) by looking at their flash top range motors to be fairly affluent, (again I know)… It just does my nut in that firms can get away with paying ■■■■ poor rates,on a take it or zb off basis :smiling_imp:

Always remember, the difference between affluent and effluent is only one letter.

Can you name the firm ? I never saw that thread you mention. I wouldn’t see a problem naming them as you are not really dissing them by discussing their pay rate. I would hope that people only work for them on that rate if they are desperate for money, and use that job for a stepping stone to a proper paying job or maybe a youngster or new start to gain experience. Paying that wage is just cheek of the highest order !

Stobarts will pay that for a cleaner : stobartgroup.co.uk/careers/G … e/cleaner/

Only if qualified or experienced it seems… :unamused:

The successful applicant will have commercial cleaning experience, a BICS or NVQ qualification in cleaning would be advantageous. They should also be able to demonstrate excellent communication and problem solving skills.

I am waiting for the post graduate NVQ course in breathing and passing wind.

If allyou have to worry about in your life is what another company pays its drivers you are a lucky man :unamused:

Pollocks are still trading, making money , still employing people and drivers are still working for them so I cant see why that would worry anybody.

Hope that is of some help.

I agree with you SRBoy, there are so many jodrells on here who “quote” wouldn’t get out of bed for that money, so on general haulage firms what are they working for? Many companies have depots all over the UK they can’t pay them different wages to each one it would be a recipe for strife. Regards Kevmac47

Its not that I wouldn’t get out of bed for that kind of money, I just wouldn’t get out of bed to drive a truck for that money. Some might do though as a matter of pride for whatever reason. Or perhaps they are willing to accept that kind of pay in return for driving a top of the range truck(all flash no cash), which is more likely to be the case here. Thats how they attract their drivers, not through the offer of a decent wage IMO.
