Pay attention at the back!

Bluey Circles:
Difficult to be critical on this one but I will give it a go … I’m making it 6 seconds for the 13 lines up to the 40 sign, lets give the benefit of the doubt and say the lines are set at the old 9 yard centres, so that would suggest an average speed of very close to 40mph for the 117 yards before entering the 40 zone, and as he was undoubtedly slowing lets give him a speed of 35 as he entered the 40!. So certainly looks very legal speed wise, but should a maximum sized vehicle be travelling at the near the maximum speed limit on such a small congested road with houses and cars parked on the carriageway?

clearly the car driver is 100% to blame, but the very best of drivers can sometimes allow for the mistakes of others.

Wow, do you ever get out  counting the white lines :open_mouth:

I’m a seriously bad driver, I too would have slowed a bit, what with there being a hazard ahead, but to My eye so did this trucker. Does anyone seriously believe that the guy should have stopped the truck short from the Minibus, and directed the cars around it, then returned to his truck and resumed his journey, because that is the message I’m getting from here :unamused:

I would further say that I don’t believe that any speed other than stopped, would have avoided that car from colliding with the truck. The car still had plenty of forward momentum after the first collision :unamused:

Sometimes, if its difficult to be critical, then don’t give it a go

Its twelve 'clock on a friday night and we are all checking trucknet.
I dont think any of us have the right to insult someone for being a bit of a saddo and accuse them of having no life!

Yeah good point well made, kind of shot in the foot with My own Pistol

Still, if I have a problem sleeping, I’ll count white lines

You were expecting something bad to happen within the short clip timespan, but if you were actually driving the wagon at the time you wouldn’t be so ready to ‘brake harshly’ imo.

I posted purely tongue in cheek

counting 13 lines over 6 seconds was not all that difficult, and it is something that I always like to do with these videos, the wide angle camera lenses sometimes distort speed and distance. And if we are going to critique driving videos then a ball park figure of the speeds involved is an important element. I doubt there was a high level of accuracy in my guestimate of 35, but I seriously doubt it was a reckless 50 or an over cautious 20.

As I said before there is no question in who is to blame, car driver not concentrating and collides with vehicle in front. And I am not for one second suggestion the lorry should have stopped and waited. My only discussion point from the video is, would 35 (if that was the speed) in a full size lorry have been appropriate there.

as for posting at midnight on a friday - LOL - it does seem a bit dodgy, but I am sort of retired and I doubt I knew it was a friday night. sadly chasing women with me mates on a friday night are distant memories now

Fence came down pretty easily, obviously not put up correctly :grimacing:

I just loved the rebound affect, (and that no one was injured), reminds me of ‘Newton’s Balls’ . I’m sure a clever person could calculate the vehicle weights from the exchange of momentum.

Classic!!

Bloody hell…‘’ only wanted to test the air bags were working boss ‘’

I’m sure a really clever person would use a weighbridge :grimacing:

Newton’s Balls? Is that a game they play in private school? :grimacing:

Think physics.
Train travelling at 125 mph… hits a fly @ 1 mph head- on… momentary impact dictates both have to ‘stop’… albeit for a fraction of a nanosecond…

No the bloody trains can’t keep up with the transport indudtry

Both shouldn’t stop, the mass of the train vastly exceeds that of the fly.

Sorry radar19. It was just a time related argument I had with some mod type years ago.

His argument was… 125-1mph=124mph for 0.000000015 of a second… both parties by the laws of physics have to stop… and before we go any further … blame Isaac Newton for the laws of physics,… not me

But physics doesn’t work like that…

Train won’t stop, deformation will occur!
Generally when the fly’s arse meets it’s face… :grimacing:

An item substantially more solid than a fly that resists deformation, will attempt to preform deformation on the train in the form making a tiny element of the train momentary decelerate to a stop!

That for all the budding physicists, would be called a dent!

Back when TruckNet was good, there was a member here called Chas. God rest his soul.

He founded PC World and was a professor of physics amongst many other things, but he chose to deliver bricks on a lorry in his later years.

He’d have shut this down in an instant with his trademark passive aggressive spewings.
