As for them going under, I went to the trouble of asking, as several mates work for em, it seems they had a recent cashflow problem, caused by a combination of loss of both the Cadburys and coke cola contracts, plus their willingness to pay their suppliers ASAP instead of using the 30,60,90 days that everyone else does, so while they`re paying bills PDQ, their customers where not paying them, instead the customers where using the 30,60,90 days
this left Pawsons with a temp cash shortfall, causing problems with obtaining fuel etc both at the yard and on the fuel cards. One driver had to get Richard Pawson to pay up on his own personnel credit card, over the phone so the driver could get back from London. But apparently the cash flow issue is sorted and bussiness is back to normal

It is always the same in this business,ferry companies,fuel companies etc all want paying in 14 to 30 days…Then we are expected to wait 30.60. or 90 days for our money,writings on the wall if any of us operate this way.The industry just gets worse and worse.

another unconfirmed story I heard recently;

When they bought the Mill opperation, there was some undesclosed/hidden debts within Mill that pawsons may have not known about, and it seems that recently the balliffs went if to recover the debt at the Mill yard, siezing property, cars etc. that may have some bearing in on the current situation, and the recent closure of the mill opperation in doncaster

Not sure how long they have been operating but Pawson was going when I started at Maltby in 1978.

As with so many haulage companies Pawsons evolved from a farming business and have been road hauliers since 1921.

I remember them from 10+yrs ago when they used to do a lot of market work.

Far be it from me to comment on this but, i saw a vlovo identical to the one quinny posted in toughers in kildare this evening . :open_mouth: hardly called it a day then have they.

I saw at least 6 trailers leave “Nestle” @ Bardon this morning, whilst I was in there, the drivers all seemed quite relaxed…

Mate of mine works in the office for Pawsons - has for years…

I questioned him a few weeks ago about the rumours and he said there had been a few problems but talk of their demise was premature.

spoke to one of their drivers in our yard to day,and he did not seem to concerned about all the talk of packing up.i have noticed though that his newer motors are plain white with sign writeing instead of the normal full burgundy paint job.he seems to be doing a lot more work for us than he used to do.

The white Volvos, all 56 plate, are ex Mill motors. There were also some yellow Scannies but they have all gone now.

if you look on lorryspotting all the yellow scanias are all still in use■■?

They were on the Hepworth contract out of Edlington. Driven past a few times today and no sign of them. Mostly just unmarked white units and plain trailers.
