Paul Maccartney .....Isreal

A quick question for our resident “Rock-n-Roll” members, kindle, Euromatt, et al…did any of your companies get involved in transporting the stuff down there?

Given the political situation in that part of the world, can stuff be driven and imported overland into Isreal or would it have to be flown in? I presume it is all transported under Carnet?

Or, can it be shipped into Haifa?..and if so, where would you have to get the ferry from?

Just curious as it would be a great run for someone

Cheers, bullitt.

any good for you,

I believe there are still companies that can arrange such a trip though do not run it regularly.
Astrans still exist and say Middle East is still their favourite destination.
TIR carnet should cover all the journey.
Overland route is possible via Turkey, Syria and Jordan; though the West Bank gets sealed off occassionally as you may have noticed from news. Drivers should have two passports or should ask israeli immigration to NOT stamp their passports - israeli visa/stamps may prevent crossing of Syria on return journey.
Lebanon to Israel - I don’t think the border regions on both sides are open to any non-militants, so NO.

Ferry: an interesting one. There used to be Pireas-Limassol-Haifa-Port Said service operated by at least two companies (Poseidon I think and the mentioned Salamis). Both were suspended “until further notice” in early 2000s (02 or 03 or so). The notice never came but…

  • last year a ferry vessel Salamis Glory of Salamis Lines en-route to Limassol collided with a coaster off Haifa,
  • Port of Limassol web page lists arrivals and departures of Salamis Glory every (other?) Friday, though it does not state destination/origin,
  • somewhere I saw a mention of a Rhodos-Limassol-Haifa ferry.
So I guess the service has resumed in some form. Apparently Limassol-Haifa is operating, Rhodes-Limassol seems to be operating and Pireas-Rhodes should not be a problem. Changing ferry on Rhodes sounds good to me, great way of taking weekly rest
You should also be able to take ferry from Alanya or Tasucu to Girme (North Cyprus), cross Cyprus overground and then take Limassol-Haifa ferry.

McCartney is a EST job, they have already done Kiev, one of ours(Fieldings)
was on that in July. Most of em then went onto Madge so don’t know if its being air freighted!

On previous tours they have either chartered their own ship or even flown the trucks in!

Trucking no. 08/2007 has a Middle East run report by guy named Chris Hooper, apparently an owner-driver doing ME more-less regularly. Here he writes about his trip to Saudi Arabia: via Turkey, Syria and Jordan there and via Jordan and Israel back home. He mentions they took Haifa-Pireas ferry.
There’s no mention on when it happened, but they say they watch Man Utd vs AS Rome. I don not follow footbal but seems to me it was fairly recently.
So, bottom line, the Pireas-Haifa ferry operates.

Cheers for the replies chaps…did abit of digging on the internet, came up with this…

Seems like the way to go, ferry leaves Pireaus and travels via Limmasol onto Haifa, like I said, a nice trip for someone!! Anyone here actually done that crossing?

I would imagine you would have all sorts of problems if you went overland via Turkey , Syria and Jordan, though once again, a fantastic journey in itself.

A couple of years ago we were negotiating to send three trucks to Tel Aviv but it fell through a few days before we were due to leave.
