“Down south” in the horse and cart days the farmers had these detatchable frames they put on the carts for the harvest to get hay on and i remember the old boys called them greedy boards, I was not alone in calling them that during my time in the truck buisnes. Harvey

Buzzer:
DEAN we had several globe trotters with the kitchen packs in but they had spirit stoves and that could be dangerous so we replaced ours with two ring gas burners from a caravan store and fitted the bottle out side the cab on the chassis in a little lockable alloy box we had made & the water tank was in one of the side cabinets of the cab. We bought some from Dawsons who supplied Globies to ACH and there govener had them removed for some reason and we retro fitted them, another MH moment Buzzer.

Quality motors Buzzer and yours were very smart !

Coomsey in North East I’ve always known them as greedy boards. Remember tippers could get 20 ton of wheat in no problem. Barley was lighter so would be overflowing at 18 ton so put some greedy boards on for the extra 2 ton.

Cliff luxton:
Well done Dean fastest growing site on here great pictures as well. Got to add one of these ain’t I.

Cheers Cliff. The thing i like about that pic is it shows what i have always said about F88’s you must
have the sun visor, makes the truck that much better looking.

With out a doubt one of the best colour schemes i have ever seen on a truck.Definately in my top three
of all time ! The next time you speak with the boss Cliff ask him where he came up with the paint job ■■?

Some pics.

Volvo F10 of Neil Hobson with a L reg F88 on trailer with a 290 grill on it ? :unamused: Should be a smaller 240
grill on L reg which goes with the correct air stack at back of cab. At first glance it looked liked a F89 until
closer inspection.

Walkersteel from Blackburn.

W ERF.jpgJack Walker was a British industrialist and businessman from Blackburn Lancashire.
Walker built his fortune in the steel industry, amassing a personal fortune of ÂŁ600 million.
He then went on to become the owner and benefactor of Blackburn Rovers Football Club, winning a Premiership title under his guidance.

Following the death of his father Charles Jack Walker took over the family sheet metal business.
In 1988 the business was making an annual profit of ÂŁ48m.
By 1990 Walker had built up the business so successfully that it had become the largest steel stockholder in Britain, employing 3,400 people at 50 sites.
Walkersteel completed a major deal with GKN, purchasing subsidiary GKN Steel-stock.
Following this Jack Walker decided that it was the right time to sell and opened negotiations with The British Steel Corporation.
Walkersteel was sold in 1989 for a reported ÂŁ360m, the highest price ever paid for a private company at the time.
On the 17th of August 2000 Jack Walker died aged 71 from cancer.

The best i can do is this…
The name ‘Borderer’ was dreamed up in May 1970 by the late Frank Whalley who was the publicity manager for Atkinson Vehicles.
It was one of six names used by the company to identify the different models being built at the time.
The range consisted of tractor units ‘Borderer’ (4x2) and ‘Venturer’ (6x4),
Two-axle chassis ‘Raider’.
Three-axle chassis ‘Searcher’
Four-axle chassis ‘Defender’.
The new model for this generation at the time being the twin steer tractor unit ‘Leader’ (6x2).

Anything earlier and Chris Gardner is the man to put you right.
