PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Hi Dean/Steam
I’ve a feeling although this was after I finished going to Corbins that the Daf was rolled by Graham Gillinghams son,I think Graham finished off Corbins as an owner driver and i seem to remember he may have had a tag axle F12 and his lad had the Daf. That motor never had a good life!!
If the number plate on the Dodge was DEL 80Y instead of 800Y it would be worth a fortune Rodney

The BWA Fabrications Bedford TM, brings back memories. BWA was and I think they are still going, a manufactueers of heavy agricultural equipment based at Out Rawcliffe, between Blackpool and Garstang. It was owned by Brian Armistead who was involved in the tractor pulling scene, his tractor was called Desperate Dan. IIRC the TM had a V8 Detroit.

The Spanish Dodge was a demonstrator on loan to Polley’s for a short time, Zebra Tipping on the door with a Fareham phone number. Presumably someone bought it after it’s demonstrator duties?

Stroll on Lee,i never realised that was the same truck when i popped it on,reckon we were lucky to catch that one if it was
a demonstrator.

I didn’t realise that the Polley brothers owned that Leyland in your photo, I saw it at a gathering in Dorchester last December.

It looks nice Nigel.

I see I didn’t put my text where it should have been:

“It was indeed quickly detatchable, but they you had to pull it out of the way by hand and it was very heavy. The worst was still to come when it had to be put back into place. It needed to be precisely put in line with the trailer, and the latter winched up. Al that by hand and on your own.”

Yes i imagine it was not the easiest thing to do on your own “Froggy55”

Oily

Nice pic Oily, hes a few miles outside of Wimborne in the sticks. Another local haulier runs a few of those 8 wheeler Volvo’s
with large cranes behind the cab on machinery removals, and they only have a payload of about 9 tons due to the heavy duty bodies
and weight of the crane. Apparently they are mainly used to load artics and then carry whatever they can weight wise. Cost wise i
was told they were around £250,000 and that was about 3/4 years ago ! :unamused:

“Steam” You mentioned Eatons run a Reiver, looks like what you described ■■

Yes thats the Eatons Reiver with the rock body on, I drove it a few times loading large roacks out of Swanworth Quarries and took them to Poole Docks when they were extending the Truckline Ferries Terminal, they were used on the waters edge to protect the land from eroding.

Glad we found a pic of it,have to see if there are any of the brick trucks were they also blue ■■ I think from memory the reclaimed land to build
the Truckline ferry terminal was done in 1975.

Hi Dean,

It was owned from new by Transport Services Southampton,it still has the air deflector in their colours, think maybe an owner driver bought it when they finished with it.

I had HCR772X and HCR 776X both IVECO’s bought from Pitters Southampton IVECO Dealers.

Hope you are keeping well.

Richard

I am fine thanks Richard and hope you and the bride are ok. Thanks for the name, good stuff chap and well spotted.

When I worked for Reg Bugler back in 1984, I remember this DAF of Corbins being in our yard behind the St. Peters Finger pub at Lytchett Minster, mind you it didnt look like that as it had just been recovered from Bath after a roll over accident whilst negociating the hill down into Bath from the M4, I dont have any pictures but I dont think it went back on the road again, it was a mess.

Never knew that “steam” thanks for the info seem to remember when you got down the bottom it was a bit twisty as you come into Bath.

Reg Bugler run some smart trucks in his time and use to have some lovely spray jobs.

I reckon that would be a private import Dean, being a ‘T’ reg - and like you, I can’t stand all the bling…

Cheers, Keith

The photo of the guy climbing in the foden shows just how far behind we were imo,

agree with the comment about the f88 being an import as its an older grille style on a later reg.

Great photos as ever Dean, thanks for your efforts.

Enjoyed reading the Foden S80 test Dean, the throttle pedal wouldn’t have been so light if the Gardner LXB was fitted in the test vehicle though! The S83 was a big improvement though, they did away with the air washer/wipers and for me it was one of the nicest Foden cabs before the Paccar takeover.

Pete.
