Hope this is OK Dean this motors owner is looking for an overdrive for this F88 if anyone can help, dont know him but someone will, Buzzer

Hey, Never to late, to put a Fuller in it.

Eric,

You’re right there Eric! I understand this Australian fleet of Volvos were retro-fitted with 9-speed Fuller 'boxes.

0

Yes Robert retrofitted, never of Volvo it self, but Scania had to do it, to get within the acceleration time, Volvo had the 16 speed and was OK.
In my MK 1 F88 it was easier to put in a Fuller as a 16 speed Volvo, because of air tanks and so on, and one chassis cross member which was still revetted and new holes had te be drilled, for the Fuller nothing had to change, only front pipe of exhause and of course the propshaft front side.

Good morning, re: HS Williams I believe that back in the day they operated from a yard which was situated in Whitchurch just past Truckers ( if it’s still called that ) heading towards Ross. The garage I believe was opposite the pub which is still there. After that the yard was on the old road and part of it could be seen on the right just before Truckers
Regards, Allan

Hi all,
Spoke with my old mate Paul East today,His dad drove for Ross Roadways for years,Apparently Ross bought H.S.Williams around 1982,kept two lorries and the work.Ran with two company names from then onwards…
Regards Andrew.

Thanks for the input Andrew.

Heres one of Ross Roadway’s motors.

Eric,

There was /is a big Volvo dealer in one of the cities of Australia, think it was Perth who used to do all sorts of converions on new
Volvo’s if the customer wanted it.They used to convert FH16’s for Giacci brothers and add another front axle with tri drive on the rear.

Scania must have changed there stance on fitting Fuller gearboxes as they would not fit them when Ralph Davies wanted them in
his Scanias. Mind you it was a long time ago.

Thanks for posting those Eric. It was a 13-sp Fuller you put in the F88 wasn’t it; and not a 9-sp? It looks fantastic. Love the Trilex wheels. :sunglasses:

Dennis Fall ran the Leyland Daz and he was a proper old school mechanic. Could fix anything and used to fire the lathe up to make
bit sometimes. I can remmeber a bracket snapping and DAF wanted silly money for a new one,so he he made one and charged me
something like ÂŁ25.00 ,proper job.

Nice pic of the Carter Routeman Daz,feel free to pop them on.
