Great stuff as usual Dean. Do you happen to have the LDD (Llewelyn) on the IPEC drawbar. Northampton to Holland trunk I believe.
Cheers, Paul.

Great interior pics Chris. Look at all those buttons !

I have some stuff on BOAC.

Now, why am I not surprised by that??

Oh yes, plenty of buttons to go at! Pointing up at the roof the pilot said, in an American sort of way, that I should think of all those switches up there as being like the fuse box in my house. In which case, if a single a bulb should blow, then the whole of the rest of the aeroplane will switch off :unamused:

I flew to Germany on this one about 18 months ago:

Couple shots of the motor show which IIRC was held at Earls Court in London, this was earl 60’s, Buzzer.

That second pic is a cracker

As apprentices we used to get a day off from tech college in the sixties to attend the Earls Court show, some of us actually went but a few lads took themselves off to Soho instead! :unamused: One year we were heading back to the train at Paddington along the corridors below Earls Court and one of the lads (I think he worked for either Courage’s brewery or Thames Conservancy?) took a crow scarer out of his bag and threw it down one of the side passages. Unbeknown to him a worker driving a Lister truck was in the passage…he was not a happy bunny when he emerged through the smoke! :open_mouth:

Pete.

Pete those rook scarer’s were a lethal bit of kit, when I was a teenager you could buy those on a slow burning rope and they were hung inside an empty 40 gallon barrel letting one of every
20 mins or so, I used to take them out the rope and peel back the wrapper round the long fuse but my goodness they were quick so having a bike with cow horn handle bars on I used to bend the fuse over the end with the banger hanging inside the handlebar, one day it never went of so tipped the bike upside down to retrieve the banger and my plan was to face it off with a 2p normal banger to get it to fire, anyways me mates had ridden off down the road so had this thing clenched in my hand chasing to catch up and low and behold it went off, well I thought I had lost me fingers and could not move me fingers proper for about a week so a painful lesson learned there and you can still get them crow banger ropes today, Buzzer.

I was that lad.

Ok, it wasn’t the motor show, it was a Machine tool exhibition and show…yawn yawn.
We got as apprentices an all exs paid trip down there… , but 3 of us did not make it to the show, we attended other shows.
I mean, c’mon Soho in the 70s?.., Three naive 16 year old lads from the North?

What a day we had :sunglasses:  , think we spent our week’s apprentices wage in the day.

Anyhoo, enough of my miss spent yoof, back to the thread.

Most of the major items have at least one or two back up’s incase the first one fails.

I like the A380 that automatically changes direction if the computer/radar picks up that another plane is in its flight path and the pilots miss it.

Have you flown on the A380 Chris ■■

Some BOAC bits and bobs.

Just look at all those companies that have disappeared. Would have loved to have had a wander around the Thornycroft stand.

Seeing as we are on the subject of aircraft, here’s a photo I took at Payar Lebar Airport Singapore in 1966 of the British Eagle Bristol Britannia the wife and myself flew back to Heathrow in.I’d just completed 2 and half years in RAF Changi and my next posting was Scampton Lincs from where I were demobbed. There’s a Shell Leyland Beaver tanker topping it up.Also a photo of Payar Lebar terminal with a Thames Trader doing the passenger transfers. The flight took just over 24 hours, via Colombo,Kuwait and Istanbul. We went out on a British United Britannia from Stansted via Istanbul and Bombay in January 1964.

About ten years ago wife and I went to New Zealand,
Newcastle - Heathrow - Hong Kong - Auckland - Wellington.

On the way back Auckland - San Francisco, crossed the date line and landed the day before we took off !!
Then SF To Los Angeles and back to Heathrow.
The whole thing was done on a code share with Air New Zealand the only true Global Airline.

Great photo Chris and Singapore is a lovely part of the world ! I imagine it was a bit cold when you got back to Lincolnshire from there.
Changi airport is voted the “Best airport in the World” pretty much every year and it is an awesome airport.

Singapore is so clean, heres the airport.

I dont know if you have been back since 1966 but i dont expect you would recognise Singapore now. Last time i was there was Jan 2015 and here’s a pic of
the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel with the great view from the roof.

All the ships are waiting to deliver to the port which is small so they have to que up. When you fly in there are normally 100 plus ships waiting.

Flying in you can see the ships. Crap pic quality. :unamused:

San Francisco is on my bucket list too.

Was going to Hong Kong myself in 2020 until this poxy covid struck.

Do you have a favourite airline or just go for the best price out of intrest ?

There certainly were some dodgy drivers at A E Evans, but all based at Barking.Sheffield based drivers were a pure as the driven snow.

Hi Dean, thought you might like this photo that was sent to me.
I actually flew in this Shackleton of 205 Sqdn at Changi when it was on air test,IIRC it was C Charlie WL786. It’s shown doing a low level run over Changi base, over the road that went down the eastern side of the airfield.Notice the locals totally ignoring it.
