As you can imagine I was well pleased and that spot in the grass by the turning for Ross became one of my favourite spots to take photos!!! The fact that there was a rather nice bakery in Ross had very little to do with it!!!

This must have passed by whilst you were in the bakery, Paul!

    Good pic Chris ! To be fair Paul use to ride bloody miles taking pics back then so cant blame him for being
in the bakery !

Used to limit myself to 3X36 shot films a day!!! Looking forward to time travel and popping back with my Digital Camera!!! - Take care and keep safe - Paul

D&f Coleman from cinderford used to be big steel hauliers out of Newport years ago

Hi

The yellow ERF pulling the Turners trailer was indeed one of a number Turners operated on contract to Blue circle cement, incidentally the CRW unit i believe looks to be hauling an old Cyril Knowles bulk tanker ,both these companies previously being absorbed by Turners…

Cheers

Hi Dean,
It is only because I’ve spent the last 40 years messing around with transport, some of us never learn mate!

One of the things i miss on the road most these days is traditional company colour schemes.

The Irish boys had some cracking looking fleets back in the 70s/80s dominated by Volvo’s and Scania’s.

Cracking picture there Dean (thanks Mark S Bailey). That’s one of two Daf 2300’s that were bought by Smith Bros of North Waltham from Morey’s Daf of Southampton. The other one was a a six wheeler bulk blower. Both were painted in Smith’s blue and yellow livery before the B&W take over which is when they were repainted green. This one is actually my dad’s lorry (Smith’s allocated vehicles to single drivers) but, it’s not him driving - it looks to me like the chap that had the other Daf!!! Dad could have been on leave or doing a bit of locum work for All Seasons!! Anyway, I bet the driver’s pee’d off because, that Barham ‘fold flat’ body was a pig of a thing to fold up and down and my guess is, he’s either done a bulk tip before doing the bagged delivery with the flat, or he’s got a bulk job after the bag delivery!!! If it was running on flat work for a day or more they used to drop the tailboard off - it was like towing a parachute!!
B&W ran this vehicle for a good length of time. Once the body got beyond economical repair it was replaced with a flat bed (I have a photo of this somewhere) and I think that, when BOCM took over B&W, they re-bodied it again with a curtain sider.
