Morning Dean,
Cracking pics of Alan Price’s fleet, Pete 359’s territory!
The only M+R Transport I know of are in Bedford, but they usually run Scania’s and I don’t think the sign writing is the same?

Afternoon all, I recognise this CF, a couple of years back there were 2 chaps, Mark and Reggie who went out on there own on bulk grain work, were subbys for Heltor in Newton Abbott for a while before going on to other things, can’t remember where they were from, think it was the Sussex area, used to see them quite a lot in various places in the south west, I seem to recall Reggie gave the job up unfortunately due to health reasons but Marks still going, had an up grade to a XF now. I’m sure plenty of on bulk will know who I mean.

Could this be the same company■■? Bulk and an XF■■? I am sure someone will be able to put me right!!!

Blandford & Webb ERF who had a mill at Blandord. Not sure what happened but All Seasons then took the mill over.

Hi Dean,
All Seasons was a joint venture between Blandford and Webb and Smith Bros of North Waltham near Basingstoke, Hampshire.
Originally a trade mark for the agricultural seed that they manufactured, All Seasons eventually became the ‘transport arm’ for the two companies although both companies kept their own liveries, Green/Yellow for B&W and Dark Blue/Yellow for Smiths, for their own fleets of vehicles - All Seasons vehicles were Blue and White.
Peter Webb eventually bought out the Smith Bros operation and their vehicles were repainted in the B&W livery but, still operated out of the North Waltham mill.
All Seasons originally provided bulk transport operations for both companies and their affiliates. They would bring in grain for processing at the mills as well as stock for the wider agricultural merchant side of the business. Grain from B&W and Smiths Bros customers to docks and mills was also core business for All Seasons. It wouldn’t be unusual to see an All Seasons bulker tipping at BOCM Avonmouth, with an All Seasons flat bed loading bagged animal feed to ‘depot stock’ BOCM’s Alton mill.
I’m not sure All Seasons ever operated the Blandford mill although they did have vehicles based both there and at North Waltham.
All Seasons eventually had their own premises at Piddletrenthide (I think) and all their vehicles eventually ran out of that yard.
All Seasons expanded into bulk agrigates and scrap haulage in addition to the agricultural stuff and was eventually sold to ND Young who, up until recently were still using the All Seasons name on their vehicles.
B&W was also sold off to BOCM and UAM and I think the B&W mill shut as BOCM already had a mill in the town. BOCM are still going but now branded as ‘ForFarmers’. The part of the business sold off to UAM has been sold several times and been owned by both Cargill and Masstock. Masstock sold this part of the business to Agrii who now run it out of a depot at Micheldever, Hampshire.

Fantastic post “Cockerdog” . Thanks for posting as always wondered what exactly happened with Blandford & Webb, spent hours
delivering there when i was a kid.

Funny you should mention Avonmouth as went there a few times as a kid but for the life of me i cant remember the docks at all.
My uncle was telling me a story only a few months ago. He left Avonmouth in a F88 loaded for Blandford & Webb
and he did not leave till mid afernoon, and said he wanted to tip that evening at Blandford. Therefore as he put it he was
not hanging around ! After he had climed up over the steep hill Spread Eagle ,he was hammering along and going around a
right bend he said he looked in the mirror and both of the trailer wheels were off the ground !!! :unamused:
Luckily he kept the power on and she came back down. Reckons he was white as a ghost when he arrived at the mill
and smoked several cigarettes to calm down, but did get tipped !

Evening all, just had 5 minutes to catch up with today’s post, some more cracking snaps and articles I see thanks to you chaps, I know this lock down is a pain but at least there’s plenty to see of interest on here, hopefully if we all hang in there for a bit longer we’ll be inundated with fresh photos in the near future, not saying that I don’t enjoy the oldies, we all do, I only hope there wo’nt be to many car drivers getting in the way of your cameras.
Thanks for reply earlier Paul, I’ve been fortunate (or sometimes not so fortunate) to work for myself since “96”, not had half the experiences as some of the chaps on here reading there stories but I have done a few various types of work over the years. I’ll see if I can learn to post some pics so I’ll apologise now chaps for the numerous attempts and ■■■■ ups!
Also, Thanks Oily for the info and photo of Mr Coles’s smart looking motor, I do see this one quite regular,
and if I see a man with a camera when I’m down there I’ll shout hello Barry out the window, see what response I get.
Cheers Nigel

Who did you drive for “Cockerdog” ■■?

Heres a few pics of the companies you mentioned. :wink

I’ve never been a driver Dean, except for a couple of years working for a marquee hire firm who had a few 7.5 tonners and even then I didn’t drive much.
My dad was/is the driver. I stumbled across Trucknet a few years ago looking for some pictures from the companies that dad drove for - he’s got a few but not too many so wanted to find some more.
This thread has been an absolute gem so, thanks to you and all the other contributors.
Dad’s first driving job was with a haulage company called Warwick & Barr from Whitchurch, Hampshire. Photo’s for this company must be rare as rocking horse ■■■ because I’ve not managed to find any - yet!! I think they went out of business in the late 1970’s
Dad left Warwicks in the mid 60’s and went to a company called Boyle & Ellis from Ramsdell, Hampshire. You have posted some pictures of lorries from John Boyle Transport - this is the same company although I’m not sure what happened to Ellis!!!
Then in 1969 he left Boyles and went to Smith Bros of North Waltham and to all intents and purposes is still there now!! He ‘survived’ all the sales and ‘take overs’ so worked for Smiths, All Seasons, Blandford & Webb, UAM, Cargill, Masstock and Agrii without changing job.
For the record he will be 78 this year and is still a full time driver but not HGV anymore!!
When something he would find interesting comes up, I make sure he gets to see it. He reckons Christopher Hill had a feed store on Poole quay which is where the Weatherspoons is now - if anyone would know the answer I’m sure you would, is he right?
Keep up the good work.
I love this thread.
