Hi Dean, yes great photos of Alan Price & Sons. The article mentioned two old girls, that would of been SVL 646 R as in the photo and 647 it’s sister. I drove both of them along with OBO 57 R which was Raymonds old truck. At 7 years old they were almost worn out and then they put them on the shale contract from Merthyr Vale up the slip road to Dowlais. A long slow drag up, but fast ride back down in silent 5th.
I always thought the black logo with white highlight looked best. An old boy used to come and sign write them.
Back then the line up was 6 wheel Dodges and D series Fords all Perkins V8s, an early Cargo with a Deutz motor and all eight wheelers were Maggie’s from R to X reg. They certainly looked the business back then.Pete Smith, Raymond Price used to say we are good at what we do. As they are still in business, he was probably right!
Thanks for posting them Dean.

m.a.n rules:
“neversweat1”]CSL are from just outside Camberley near the Gibraltar Barracks. Minley.Steve
a bit of history on this motor, it was owned by a Scottish o/d after csl sold it, I think he was a bit of a naughty boy as my mate bought it via HMRC auction as it had been re/po’d… and from 2013/15 it was my ride on the boxes out of birch coppice doing locals via roadways a nice number till marmite took over and destroyed the job for o/d’s.
but it made my mind up to retire early at 55 and I haven’t looked back since…p.s it was a cracking motor and had been looked after well by all that owned it…
“m.a.n.rules” Always nice when someone see’s one of there old motor’s on here. That’s a familiar story another company
taking over and buggering the job up.
Thanks for the info chap.

Morning Dean,
Cracking pics of Alan Price’s fleet, Pete 359’s territory!
The only M+R Transport I know of are in Bedford, but they usually run Scania’s and I don’t think the sign writing is the same?
Afternoon all, I recognise this CF, a couple of years back there were 2 chaps, Mark and Reggie who went out on there own on bulk grain work, were subbys for Heltor in Newton Abbott for a while before going on to other things, can’t remember where they were from, think it was the Sussex area, used to see them quite a lot in various places in the south west, I seem to recall Reggie gave the job up unfortunately due to health reasons but Marks still going, had an up grade to a XF now. I’m sure plenty of on bulk will know who I mean.
