Thanks to everyone for all the answers to the mystery truck !![]()
Some good guesses there and the winner is “vwvanman0” and second “Frankydobo”, it is indeed a Bussing.
Whats your favourite truck “vwvanman0” ■■
Some other intresting answers from Peter Coaker and Hargreaves mentioning Henschel. I dont know anything about those makes
although i will have stuff on them, but did they all use a similar cab like when various manufacturers used Motor Panel cabs for
instance ?I did post a front shot of the truck near the beginning of this thread with an advert. I dont remember ever seeing a UK registered
Bussing, does anyone else ■■ I cant see that they sold many ?2

Later ones were sold as a MAN model, and were assemblied in Turkey I believe. There’s a plant handler in Holland who sells them, 6x4 units, looks like a proper motor from a distance…
Edit, I’ve found the website from said handler, apparently he’s got 26 of them for sale…

Just had a quick look at that site Patrick and they look immaculate for 1986 motors. They must have been refurbished looking at them.

Hi Dean,As a kid i travelled in many Leylands and mercs so my favourite is the Leyland marathon. Ahem i will get my coat!
Everyone says they were a lash up etc etc, but as a kid it was massive and we were king of the road.Regarding the bussing,
There is a bussing with that cab for sale at the moment on mobile.de for 50k restored it has air suspension sleeper cab so advanced for the time compared with Brit trucks.
Keep up the great thread, and i don’t suppose you have any station haulage trucks in your collection, red cab white stripe from Colne Lancashire.
Regards Steve
Hello Steve, posted loads on here about Marathon’s chap. There are brochures on pages 286 and 395 plus if you search there are articles and

By heck Dean I don’t think the green Foden is for me with that registration . I’ve driven a few of them back in my misspent youth , but that number plate would put me off .
A quick word on Bussing, formed in 1903, they became well known for their underfloor horizontal engines which they had pioneered in 1936 and previously in 1923 built the first three axle rigid truck in Germany. The tractor units shown in the photo’s above had vertical engines as did the normal control range but earlier in the 1960’s they introduced underfloor tractors shown in the pic below. Bussing sold off their factory to Faun-Werke in 1968 and a year later formed a link with MAN (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nurnberg A.G.) then got took over by MAN in 71, the underfloor engine models were continued under the name MAN-Bussing until late in the 80’s. (I recall seeing these in Germany in the 70’s when in the BAOR). It seems they didn’t become as popular in the UK as makes like Magirus or Mercedes back then although they were well built and had powerful engines for the period. Franky.

Hi Jakey,
Off the clock if you wanted!
Had some of those early 95’s at Penkridge, E and F reg’s think they where on hire from Lex, always had trouble with the electrics on them when coupling up to T.I.P trailers, those Daf’s had a “time out” box under the fuse board which knocked all the power off.

What with a Gardner 6LW at 102 bhp…don’t think it was Scammell. Meadows was an optional engine in Scammell, had a bit more power I believe. Leyland and AEC had 125 bhp for the UK, 150 bhp for certain export models.

I think you are over thinking this one Graham ?
It depends on what ‘most powerfull’ means really Dean? Most British makers, apart from Dennis, Leyland, Albion and Sentinel, used the same Gardner or Perkins diesel engines, and a lot still had petrol power, so I’m guessing it could be something designed for off road use? No suggestions though, sorry!
Pete.
