Morning Dean,
One Stop have their head office in Brownhills Staffs, and distribution depots in Wakefield and Southampton ( I think), started off trading as T+S stores with a couple of Fiat 7.5 tonners and Ford Cargo’s, they run Merc’s now, all Tesco spec as they are now owned by Tesco’s. Cheer’s Pete

Anyone recognise the ERF bulker ■■?9
Not completely sure but it looks like one of Mick Colliers from Chippenham Wilts. It’s very similar colours but I always remember his motors being a lot smarter and cleaner than that. That poor thing looks a little unloved…
I suppose it could be ex Mick Collier

Hi Dean, The J & J trailer is Johnson & Johnson, A manufacturer of medicinal products, and baby powder for babies bums.
H. B. & H Transport were based on the A49 between Haydock and Newton Le Willows, I remember Johnson Wild, but cant
remember what they did.
The Plessey company made telephones and communications equipment, They were formerly known as A. T. & E.,
“Automatic Telephone and Electrics” or similar, and had an enormous factory on Edge Lane in Liverpool that employed
several thousand workers, mainly ladies. They also had a smaller factory at Union Bridge, Wigan.
Just remembered…Johnson Wild produced “Leisure” gas cookers at Whiston or Rainhill.
Cheers,Ray.
Chris Webb:

Chris Webb:
Hi Dean.
Yes,UK - IOM on front of unit but not a IOM reg plate.I know nowt about that company so I’ll ask around.Unit looks very like ex TNT ?
I think that the first one we have had with that name. I see what you mean about it being possibly ex TNT.
Bewick:
“robroy”“kevmorrow”
My first load out of Marchon for Ireland was a nightmare as I had to reverse in a dodgy loading bay with an AEC Mandata 40 footer with no power assisted steering. The 5 minute reversing job ended up taking what felt hours.
Good old days
KEV
The notorious end bay, where you loaded washing powder, no.4 I think it was, a blindside on an angle which was loaded on the side, so your trailer had about 3’’ to spare each side otherwise you scraped into the full length of the bay.
I also done it in a non power steering Atki Borderer, [zb] nightmare it was.I backed into that No4 bay OK with my D1000 4 wheeler, but I had power steering of course!

Thanks for the comments “Piston broke” that would make sense as being a grain bulker hes probably just come from
Poole docks or Christopher Hill’s mill in Poole. Could be an ex Mick Collier truck as it looks like the name has been
removed from the headboard sign.

Hi Dean.
GKN is Guest Keen and Nettlefold in old money, they have factories all over the UK and abroad and they had a steelworks in Cardiff called Eastmoors. They manufacture aerospace equip nowadays but they were best known for nuts and bolts when I were a lad and also for making clutches in Sheffield after taking over Laycock Engineering there. Also crankshafts after taking over Ambrose Shardlow Sheffield. In the 70s I used to see GKN Heath Street Division wagons running between South Wales and Birmingham. They also made the tilt cabs for AEC at GKN Sankey Wellington Salop. If you Google GKN you will see how big they are.
As for the MAN Avia 8-legger,sorry but I don’t know much about that company except that it’s French owned I believe and a big player in Europe,as I have seen their stations when abroad.

Hi Dean,
As Chris has said above GKN was a massive concern and I think their HQ was originally in Cranford Street Smethwick, hence the Bearwood reg number on the Sed Ak.
Slightly off topic, Archie Nettlefold bought his own island, Burgh Island near Plymouth and built an art deco hotel, Noel Coward, Agatha Christie, Lord Mountbatten and The Beatles all stayed there. Chris Webb probably has also stayed whilst on a dodgy!
Hi Dean,
Regarding the Ford P100 pick up, they built them in South Africa, my first company vehicle was a P100, 1600 cc OHC, it could legally carry a ton but was a bit ar$se end heavy and a complete rot box.

No I didn’t stay there cos they didn’t have an en suite room.
Wasn’t that GKN Heath Street Division at Bordesley Green Pete?
