I think it maybe you who are a bit out Rob.

M reg. was Aug. 73 to 74…and so on.
Sorry to mention it but seeing as we are in " pedantic mode " today…

Looks like its on a V reg. Didn’t the F10/12 range appear on an S plate ?

Morning “Suedehead” Volvo F10 and F12 first Appeared in Uk mid 1977 so an S plate would be 1971 ish F88 with early plastic grill. Harvey

Volvo F10/12 were introduced in 1977 on S reg. Always remember it as it was the Jubilee year.

Thanks for all the comments from members about that !

HRS:

Thanks for the pics Colin.

Buzzer:
Hi Dean that Ford looks very familiar as there is one in a garage near Fishers Pond, Winchester which is now a wrecker but is the same colour as well, Buzzer.

Thanks Buzzer its an odd looking back end on it i could not work out if it was indeed a wrecker or some sort of timber/forestry truck.

Suedehead:
So how come the F89 is a V reg then ?

Possibly old/unsold stock, imported or parked in a barn for tax reasons, it was not unusual back then to see vehicles registered some time after they were purchased.
I think there is some unregistered vehicles from them days still stashed away now. Dave…

I agree Dave, there was tax benefits in the 1970s i believe !

One of the first , there were some demo’s with OWL reg, on an S plate :open_mouth:

Hi Dean ref the AEC 1967 Progressive order, the first two Mercurys with 7 car trailers came to Oxford, I collected both from Coventry. Alan Long and I ran night trunk with them to Carlisle, day man to Edinburgh or Glasgow tip then load Imps at Linwood for south it was a doddle of a job, lasted about six month then MAT ran trains from Cowley.
The 6 car in the picture was driven by Johnny Pratt, a loner, always ran on his own and kept a very smart wagon, adding a few extras. The trailer is a in house job, cutting a 5 car and forming a “well” for the extra car.

Hi DEAN

The Reliance tank in your image looks familiar.
Reliance Tankers had a contract with KRAFT foods formally known as (Southern Oil) Westinghouse Road Trafford Park late 1960s 70s. KRAFT then run their own fleet mid 1970s until 1982 then taken over by Acatos and Hutchinsons renamed many times Central Edible Oils then Trafford Edible Oils and Pura Food Transtore.
I worked for Smith and Robinsons also had a contract with Southern Oil many moons ago.

Question for you lads what would you drive if you had a choice of the two dafs old or new

Hard hat on, I would take the XF if that was what I had to use every day, I am sure they were not all the same but I had a bad experience with a 3300 with a vertical exhaust, noisiest motor I have ever driven when accelarating or pulling hard on a hill, I was glad to get back to my dinky F7 by the end of the week.

Dave…

Got a feeling that F10 was sold by Princes Commercials, Southampton to Billy Robinson, ( W.J.Robinson ) he bought an F88 on an R reg and as soon as the F10 came out he had one of those and the number plate rings a bell, Maybe Harvey or Gazzer can throw some light on the subject and tell me if I am right or wrong, Buzzer.

Tilcon bought out Hinckleys Dean, that Foden would be from their depot at Eaton Hall, Congleton, before the fleet was repainted in the Tilcon red and grey. Later, when the tanker fleet was sold off, Via Gellia transport took over everything and then they vanished as well! :unamused:

Pete.
