It’s got a AV Peterborough reg plate so could well be one of Turners of Soham Dan.

Thanks for that “tvdriver” never knew that ! So is the Kenworth a “B train” then ■■
Paul, that set up would be 28’ pup trailers ,the rear trailer hooked with an A frame dolly, like the drawbar trailers used to be 20, 30 years ago.

Morning Dean,
Standard Motor Transport are from Kidderminster and still trading,
The owner Kenneth Batson owned this Leyland Beaver for a number of years ex Barry Brash’s from Checkley Truckstop, Cheer’s Pete

Buzzer:
Hi Dean I think A.E Gough & Sons hailed from Micheldever near Winchester, also I went to Agricultural college in Wiltshire with Tim Brown the son of George T.Brown, Buzzer

Thanks for your comment Buzzer .There must be 2 A.E.Gough’s as that one came from Mid Wale’s according to Trevor.

kmills:
Maggie Deutz maybe?

Square Grip specialised in concrete reinforcement steelwork - ‘re-bar’ for short. I know that during the 1980’s their Hq was at Colnebrook, and they had a site in Sittingbourne too.Cheers, Keith

Thanks for the info Keith  Could be a Maggie.

Mark R:
“Buzzer”]
Square Grip had a yard in Eastleigh just along from Lamberts, delivered straight bar in there a few times as a return load from Isle of Sheppy after tipping fruit in Kent Buzzer.
My dad used to deliver to Square Grip at Eastleigh & Colnbrook when he worked out of Sheerness Steel… I don’t recall a place in Sittingbourne though, even though I live there!

Thanks for the info “Buzzer and Mark R”

tvdriver:
Freightliner.What would you call that a “B train” ■■

Those are called Rocky Mountain doubles, a 40’or 45’lead trailer with a shorter tail trailer

Thanks for that “tvdriver” never knew that ! So is the Kenworth a “B train” then ■■ :unamused:

moomooland:
Square Grip had premises in Oldham near Alexandra Park…
This company was founded in 1934 by Frank Henman the brother of Philip Henman who founded the national road haulage and warehousing company, the Transport Development Group.
Square Grip manufactured twisted high tensile steel for concrete reinforcement with Philip Henman providing the financial backing and advice.

Cheers Paul.

Cheers, Keith
I’d agree with that. This is the only rear view of a Maggie cab I can find:

Possibly a Maggie

logger:
Square Grip also had a factory/ depot at Yate , nr Bristol . Operated Ford Transcontinentals .
They supplied a lot of reinforcing for the channel tunnel

Good stuff logger you forget how time flys just looked and the channel tunnel opened in 1994.

HRS:
Morning all,
Square grip Eastleigh was the main “bending station” straight bars in. Used students a lot, as once you set up the jig it was just repetative stuff but quite physical work. Had a few Volvo’s though. Harvey.

Chris Webb:
The only BFC initials that spring to my mind are British Fuel Company, but I don’t know if they did general haulage.

Thanks Chris but i think “robthedog” has the right one chap.

Turners (Soham) Ltd. contract vehicle based at Cauldon Low. Turners had the Blue Circle contract for quite a number of years.

Square Grip Seddon Atkinson. Not had one of this companies on here before, anyone know where they were based ?

good evening all, brings back memories this picture. Square Grip (Eastleigh) is where I started HGV driving and this vehicle is being driven by my lorry driving mentor and good friend Roy Raggett. (RIP)
whilst I was there we also had a Volvo F86 and I had a day cab F7, the Sed-Ak in photo was eventually replaced by a ERF C-series. I left in 1984 and joined Clapcotts, Roy followed a year or so later.
unfortunately he passed away in 1994 at the age of 49.
as previously stated Sq. Grip head office was Colnbrook. apart from Eastleigh they also had depots in Bristol, Gateshead and Scotland.

My old F7

another of UHO

Roy’s daily at Clapcotts.

Your photo! Transcon was on its way to a KRAFT depot at Seacroft Leeds or KRAFT factory Kirkby Liverpool with fats marge and cooking oils. Driver Tommy Oliver.
We had two Transcons and the other one in the yard pulling taker driver Phil Keep.

My first tanker was Seddon Atki ONC 100P “notice the designer rust”.

Myself with F10 approx. 1983.

Well the greenies sure put the boot in to log trucking in Oregon… Just a shadow of it’s former self…Most nights in the state of Oregon there are only 8 police officers on duty for the whole state… That’s all the budget can afford…
Early 2000’ands when it all went "pear shaped " a bunch of loggers put all their machinery. ( Dozers, Forwarders, Snorkels, etc ) on low loaders and hauled them south for a big auction … even while on their last journey the tree huggers attacked the convoy… At auction the stuff went so cheap that it didn’t even cover the transportation cost for the trip… Over the next few months most of the rest of the gear was drained of all fluid, put on a barge and the whole lot was taken out to sea and sunk…

In Tasmania there was a blight of tree huggers around the same … Usually young, impressionable, misinformed, easily manipulated folk from interstate… Did I mention they were all very smelly and unwashed…recruited by nefarious means… They set up various camps in logging coupes and instantly got news coverage… They caused a lot of disruption… spread miss information…and did a lot of damage…
Usually misinformed, most of the time they set up camp in new growth plantation forests… a long way from the hard to get to old growth trees…They even attacked one of the local Bush Fire stations which was staffed by volunteers, set up to protect the surrounding bush, but also the remote houses and properties of local people that chose to live in the community…

They love the trees and the forests… so much so that in the summer time when the forests are at there greatest threat ( Forest fires ) which can be hundreds of square miles at a time, they all bugger of back to the the main land and let the "Evil forest workers " try to save what’s left with the machinery which has to be repaired after it’s all been trashed by the tree huggers…
In the end all they achieved was to remove the right to protest about anything by any one in Tasmania…

Bed time now…

Jeff…
