Morning Dean,
Great set of pics as usual,
The Scammell was owned by Joe Davies from Wolverhampton, 2nd pic is what he used to pull round the shows with her, 28 mph top speed!
Joe replaced the Scammell with an ERF a series which is being currently restored, Joe sadly passed away 2/3 years ago.

Thanks for the pics and comments Pete. That must have been hard work on a long trip 28mph.

Cant make the name out on the Renault tanker. Think it says Devon on the headboard.

Hi Dean, The Red Renault looks like Thompsons of Moretonhampstead, Devon. The ERF 8 wheeler tanker could be Co-op. Regards, Ray.

Cheers Ray for confirming what John said as well.

Morning Dean,
Jordans were from Newhaven, I loaded frag out of there in early 90’s for Sheerness Steel and Jordans drivers was moaning about wages etc so the main man told them if they don’t like it he will put solid tyres on their vehicles and have them shunting the yard all day, the trucks were Merc 1735’s!
Jordans was bought out by EMR probably 10+ years ago, Cheer’s Pete.
ps. that bonneted Merc of Holmans, did Truck magazine do a feature on one, late 80’s? Seem to remember it was a Devon company.

Hi all,
I remember approaching a busy junction in the Abbey (known locally as Piccadilly)solo one night and someone had brought the torpedoes outside in the rain, all I remember was a brief flash and a noise on the tin Merc roof,as If stones had landed on it.several minutes later back at Joint,s yard on the fuel pump, I climbed up and saw it was lots of molten slag that had landed on the roof and made the noise.one of the Joint quarry drivers had been approaching Piccadilly at the same time as me,though from a different direction and when he got to the yard there wasn’t a window left in the heavily damaged cab.I later heard a similar accident in Scunthorpe years earlier had killed several people.
Regards Andrew.

I wonder if Grace’s are still trading, we used to encounter them a lot around the various London mills in the sixties with their BMC’s, ERF chinese sixes with half tilt bodies and Fodens. I believe that they also had a Foden agency at one time as well?

Pete.

Hi, Dean
I really like the Berliet TR / GR and the Pegaso 2080.
Do you have trucks from the 70s and 80s of ONATRA and MAHE French?
thanks Dean
Good weekend
bye

Cheers John, i see Port Talbot never came out too good on the pollution survey they have just done. It is the
most polluted place to live apparently. :unamused:
