seen a lot of photos that have been taken on this roundabout, it looks very much like the old a1 m62 junction at ferrybridge the junction to the right of the photo is the entrance to the services

Think you are spot on there nice one.

dont ever remember seeing anyone on that roundabout taking photos and i used to use it everyday back in the nineties. one of george bloomers we bought a few years ago

Was that ERF on the scrap tippers running into Aldwarke with another one with “blue suede shoes” on the front?

DEANB:
I reckon there is about 180 pics left of this batch of pics. Paul dropped off the next batch yesterday
to me. The next batch is 2247 pics !   I have had a quick look through and its full of gems
and of a better quality, as he had bought a better lens for his camera.

Jaysus, will we live long enough?
Paul’s collection must be one of the most comprehensive of that era. Fantastic

Taylor Road, where we (Turners) moved to at the end of August. I hear the ghosts of long gone Atkis of Ancliffs every morning and of course, Smiths of Eccles were longtime residents of Taylor Road. It’s probably apt that a company such as Turners with its origins dating back to 1930 is there now.

Love the picture of this old girl.

Operated by the long gone Scotts of Oldham Terry Grindon drove this former Wilson’s Brewery ERF KV four wheeler dray wagon.
Here’s a couple more pictures of Scott’s ERF’s both driven by Jack Kershaw who is seen in the picture below

Do you mean Turners of Soham Graham? If so,I think their original Manchester depot was in Collyhurst.I used to get lifts from Kings Lynn to Grantham with their Norwich trunkers and then into a Manchester wagon to Sheffield. This was when I was in RAF in Norfolk 1960-63,they were running Austins then LAD Dodges from Norwich and Bedford “S” types from Manchester.

Chris Webb:
Here’s a photo taken at MFS depot at Ross,I believe it was Winter 1981.I can’t remember who sent me the photo though…I remember I was on nights shunting and our TM Don Simpson, TSM Paul Stone and regular shunter Paul Goodhind trunked down that night and used the Midlands bound side of the M50 to get to Ross from Strensham as the other side was impassable. They didn’t meet another vehicle until the end of the M50,only to be greeted by the police. :grimacing: I meant to ask where they changed sides…
I know they got a bollocking but no further action was taken.

Nice pic again Chris, they were lucky getting away with that !

That’s correct Chris, at its peak of activity at Collyhurst Turners ran up to 20 trunks between East Anglia and Manchester. I don’t really know why Manchester depot was closed in the late 1970s, but it was missed when I was in my first stint with Turners at Fordham and Newmarket between 1990 and 2005, and it was discussed then about having a Manchester depot once again. Containers division opened a small containers depot in Manchester about 5 years ago, along with some Manchester based tanker drivers, and when I became available 6 months ago I re-joined Turners to establish a refrigerated operation here and also help the tanker division.
