Mechanical failure or driver error?

I had a day cab FL10 for a while ex dairy motor and it was a great little thing.Pulled very well as a Scania driver who was going to Heysham docks at the same time as me found out when i passed him up the hill out of Brighouse

The very same fella jumped into my cab whilst I was loading at Deeping and carried out a licence/DCPC check on me. I collected my paperwork and watched him jump into his car and disappear. A minute or so later I realised that he’d left his spectacles in my cab. I promptly set off it pursuit up the A15 and after some “enthusiastic “ driving I caught him and managed to stop him in a lay-by.

His first words were “Jesus, how fast were you going?” Shortly followed by “well I guess that covers the driving assessment!” :joy::joy:

That shot was at the East Lancs Mill at Radcliffe one of a number of FL 10’s I ran at BTS and this one was driven from new by Duncan McMinn a long serving BTS Driver from Kendal. It is coupled to a Boalloy 44ft trailer . The scabby bumper let that unit down but it would have been refurb’d at MOT time but it does spoil the shot and not up to our usual standard :grimacing:

His he one of your team down there or is he homeless or at large. We have a similar bloke up here there must be a height limit on who they employ for the job probably so they dont have to bend down to check the wheel nut flags.Ours is a dead ringer for Judge Rinder but it’s an improvement on Vern Troyer as he is known😬

I thought the FL10s were pretty decent motors.I could understand why drivers didn’t like nights out in them because of the lack of room but i thought they were a comfortable drive

Based down here at either Caythorpe or Quarrington methinks , I think his name is James if I’m not mistaken

Looks like it might have collided with the car, left of pic

Wonder which one the drivers preferred

The Atkinson of course !:+1:

The ones that prefered the Atki did they live near Sellafield by any chance Dennis .I did hear the seagulls fly backwards up there:thinking:

Would the Granada be the gaffers motor by any chance.A mark 1 sold at Mathewsons for ÂŁ33000

Cummins v Detroit. In the interests of accuracy.

12v71 475 hp at 2100 rpm.852 ci.Non turbocharged.

Cummins N14.525 hp at 2100 rpm.

what’s it like now. what’s that fleet spec scania like you have. is it ex stobarts. noticed Panda and paw print appearing on the trucks now

Its very basic but for what i do it’s fine.I have no interest whatsoever in modern motors.I would prefer a gearstick but no chance. Its Scania Truck Rental as are all of them. The place is out of control

But they still swoop down and nick your chips “ramone” ! The red Granada was our Fleet Engineers car and it had the 2:5 D Peugeot engine the V reg one had the 2:1 D earlier engine. Now the red one was a Taxi spec with leather type grey seating and stiffened suspension and it was also wired up in the roof lining to take a taxi sign ! Now the V reg one was like a Christmas tree and it had every conceivable extra that was listed and also it had an electric radio aerial that doubled as a CB aerial for the MIdland CB set that was located in the glove box ( this was at the height of the CB craze) and as my Fleet Engineer ( who I indulged like a young Brother) was about 23 at the time and was into all the CB bollox ! He had a further

two of the later “jelly mould” Granadas both with the 2:5 D engine .

They looked the part at the time much better than the Sierra and Scorpios?? that followed.Cowleys red one in the Professionals looked superb.I bet the 23 year old was well chuffed with that. I had a 10 year old yellow Volvo 244 DL at the time .Very slow but i wish i had it now.I had a call the other day from one of your locals at South Lakes Volvo wanting to sell me a car and make a big profit at both ends , i declined so another year with my XC90
