A load of export Triumph Spitfires heading for a pound at Honeybourne Airfield because of a shortage of parts(note the headlights). I was on that job with a different firm, Electric lift on the unit took an age to load and unload the top deck Carter Engineering of Tamworth with Super Comet.

I think you could get a 335 Cummins in a Big J .I think they were an option. Also available in the early Marathons
You could get the 5cyl D5 in the C30 so i would guess the T5 would have been an option too , i would imagine they would nip on a bit
Gāud day mate or whatever time of day or night it is Down Under ! the expression is āFlogging a dead horseā mate

Got it. Iāll bow out ![]()
I think I have to settle for a nibble.
Yes, you could. Pickfords had some with the NTC 335.
Nice film. Thanks for posting.
When he lugged round that mini-roundabout in a fairly high gear, you could hear how that Cummins found the torque to pull away effortlessly. That 14-ltr Cummins was one of the early high-torque-at-low-revs pioneers, with the Scania V8 hot on its heels!
The only Big-J I drove had a Gardner 180 with a TET 6-sp ābox. But I only drove it as a yard shunter.
I know Iām biased, but in my opinion the 14 litre Cummins was the best engine ever built. I wish I had a dollar for every time I was prepared to change down, but the Cummins dug its heels in,growling and clawing back revs.
Is he making a political point by missing out St. Patās cross from the Union flag?

I agree entirely. ![]()
Must have heard me.

Just watched the Guy film again. I notice it follows the normal H-shift pattern so it must have an RT 9509 ābox. The other little knob behind the range-change plunger will be the clutch-brake / intertia brake activator. For some reason or other they were on the gear stick in a Guy, instead of being at the bottom of the clutch travel, as on other units contemporary with the Big-J. Just another piece of, now useless, information! If youāre 21 and about to take your test, disregard this post ![]()
