The first one’s a Rowe by the look of it. The second one’s the Sentinel.
They are both TVW’s. They were built in Warrington, at Winnick St., using all the remaining chassis’s from Sentinel. they used cabs from Boalloy and Williams from Grappenhall, and engines from Commer, AEC Leyland and Gardner. Production finished in the early 1960’s. This is a photo of NWW666 in Rush Green quite a few years ago.
Bit of odds’n’sods video here. A 1998 Douglas “tuggie” or more accurately a “pushie”.
Power from a Deutz BE6M of about 250 BHP and capable of pushing a 280 ton aircraft.
AEC did one too but it wasn’t a success .Marshall 8 wheeler with an AV505
Indeed looks a bit messy.
Very interesting! That guy was totally right concerning oversquare engines.
Leyland Beaver ??
[off topic] I’m now using a completely different browser on my laptop - new everything. I’ve just logged in and still the scroll thingy (RHS of the screen) is going nuts, I can’t follow a damned thing on this webs(h)ite any more and (given this is the only location it happens) what little patience I have has about run out. I’m sorry to be such a curmudgeon but sod this for a lark [/rant]
I have tried this site on two devices with 3 different browsers. Used both desktop and mobile settings. All much the same.
Other forums, no issues.
The good news is that the random access and everything being out of order, and making no sense at all, has the Politics thread unchanged.
GOM it said it was a V8 Mandator, Buzzer
Fair enough, badge engineering. I’ll ‘modify’ my opinion…AEC Mandator
Don’t let the AEC fan club hear that it will bring no end of grief or at least me.
Even the 4.4 litre Range Rover/Ford V8 diesel has almost 100 mm stroke v 83mm bore.
Bearing in mind that the TL12 was, supposed to be, Leyland’s in house engine manufacture saviour ( according to gingerfold at least ) and the fact that they had to put the RR and Cummins in the Marathon then went back to TL12 in the T45, then had to use RR and Cummins in that, says it all.
Gingerfold is more than welcome to come back and defend his position contrary to the idea that it was my ( accurate ) observations that supposedly caused him to run off crying foul.
As for the Marathon it actually started out with a better sleeper than what the Marathon 2 got.
As I know from experience doing nights out with one.Which no doubt will bring calls of liar it was actually better than a DAF 2800.
Nights out now? Your CV is expanding quicker than Pinocchio’s nose methinks.
You really should remember previous statements, you’ve made, before claiming new (no doubt wished/dreamed) experience. Next, European and Middle East?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’ve never been past the Post Office.
To be a good liar one must have a good memory. Simple as that.
He knew it would never fly.
I wish i knew how to pm i could tell you some tales about nights out from our place which would leave you gobsmacked
