Bloody hell that started easier than i expected. They will have their work cut out trying to restore that.If only they’d had someone to advise them someone who knows everything about everything. He could have told them where they were going wrong.Brilliant video all the same
Yes Rob, it on the north bound side of the M5 a couple of miles from the M4. its been there for years
I know just the man. Our hero.
Sorry, it’s not for me, IMO it’s trimmed up like a Christmas Tree. After saying that I’ll accept that under all the ‘bling’ it’s a tidy well kept motor.
God I hate ‘curtain fringes’ and mini flags.
And if he switches all those lights on at the same time he’ll melt the batteries.
A Scammell with an original ‘gate’ gearchange, they sorted the men from the boys. I’ve used one ( only for a couple of days) and I enjoyed driving the thing. No cutting corners or skipping gears, it was 1 - 6 and 6 - 1 and every gear in between.
A mans gearchange.
And 38 mph in top gear flat out, and a throttle lock so you could sit on the left hand side on the A1 north and get balanced up with a brown left arm in the afternoon.
With you on both posts @grumpy_old_man
I once asked on here if there were any surviving Krupp cabbed Atkis left today, or restored.., but it does not look like there are.
Were there many about at the time ?
I never actually saw one, but seen plenty of pictures.
I was always fascinated by them..
(I’m very easily pleased btw )
I bet they were a vast improvement on the Borderer cab, especially with the factory sleeper.
Well thank you for your interest, Rob. The Atkinson CLT preceded the Borderer by about six years, so it’s not really comparable.
Here is the link to the thread I created a long time ago, all about the Atkinson CLT. Enjoy!

Thanks for that, I’ll save it and read through it all on a break back at work.
So have I got you right…these came out before the Borderer.?
I just thought they were another option.
They certainly look more modern than the Borderer.
My Atki was an ex ICI on a M plate, I bought it to start off with, but I had been spoiled with better (and certainly more comfortable ) motors.
Cant say I ‘liked’ it.
Have you driven a ‘Krupp Atki’ before, yourself then?
If so how did you raye it?
The CLT model came out at the end of the '60s. In the end only about 10 were built. I never drove one but I met a driver who did (and he quite liked the beast). One of the conditions apparently of Atkinson using Krupp cabs was that they had to use German made ZF constant-mesh gearboxes. These were coupled to Rolls Royce 220s. I’m damned sure that if they put Fuller constant-mesh 'boxes in with Cummins 220s they’d have been more successful. Having said that, gearbox installation was never a strong point with Atkinson or SA to say the least! Still, one used to do regular trips to Malta and another one did TIR work from Belgium so they were up to the job. They were based on the Silver Knight model that preceded the Borderer.
Thanks for info mate.
I think Atkinson missed a trick there not making more, …like I said they look more modern and from a driver’s pov a better cab environment in comparison to the old Atki cab.
Yeah mine was a 220Cummins with a 9 spd Fuller, and a dodgy ‘sleeper’ …not the fastest of trucks…(didnt help I was overweight most of time ) but I knew that when I bought it.
Bought it off this guy.
In my colours …My girlfriend modelling it.
'‘Beauty and The Beast’…
(Don’t you DARE ask which is which btw )
