Hope all is well on the I.O.M. Are you trying to start another “Storm Dennis” ?

A couple more, Buzzer

Hi John,

The AEC 8 wheeler was one of several in the fleet of Midway Transport from Golborne, near Wigan.
Midway were part of Hills of Cardiff. In this picture, the AEC is passing through Market Place in the
centre of Wigan, en route from H .J . Heinz factory at Standish to the Heinz factory at Kitt Green.
The Standish factory produced mainly bottled products, Salad Cream, Mayonnaise, Tomato Sauce,
and Vinegar, so it was necessary to continually ship the bottled goods to Kitt Green from where most
of the Heinz products were despatched from. There is a shorter route between the 2 factories, but
it is via a low railway bridge at Gathurst. Another of Hills 8 wheeler covered AEC lorries spent several
years inside the Kitt Green factory, carrying 10 pallets of finished goods from one building to another,
and back for more, each journey of about 500 yards. Old Frank who drove this AEC once said that first
and second gears were a bit worn, but third and fourth were like brand new because he didn’t use them.

Ray Smyth.

Hi Richard.I wouldna dream of firing Storm Dennis up………well maybe a little bit.
All is well here, very quiet today with some sun but ready for next onslaught.

A busy road junction in the centre of Liverpool in the early 1960s.
On the left is Old Haymarket bus terminus, near St Georges Hall.
The lorries include a Ford Thames 4D dropside flat, a Morris Royal Mail
van, a Leyland Comet flat, a Ford Thames Trader Pickfords tanker,
and a split screen lorry that I cant identify. The big van at the rear
looks like Deans Transport from Edmonton, North London, who I seem
to remember carried furniture. To the right, off picture, is the Mersey Tunnel.
All of the traffic is at the start of the A59, and is being held by a Policeman
on Point Duty. NMP.

The same location as the picture above, but at a slightly later date.
At the bus terminus on the left are 3 Liverpool Corporation buses
and 3 from Ribble Motor Services. Next to the bus shelter is one of
the Bedford artic mobile canteen vehicles of Liverpool Corporation,
for use by bus crews, At the bottom of St Johns Lane is a Leyland
Atlantean of Liverpool Corporation. A BRS Parcels artic and a BMC
FG series van have passed through the Mersey Tunnel toll booths,
and are entering the tunnel, another BRS Parcels artic is approaching
the toll booth. NMP.

They used the same basic Motor Panels cab so would be similar, but that is a Foden with sleeper as produced at Sandbach but many went for export.

Nice n easy does it !! Bet the chap that designed that trailer was glad he didn’t have to drive it ! nmp

I was tempted to put this picture on the " Fanfare for the Commer Man " thread,
but the " Past, Present, and in between " thread seems more appropriate right now.
These Corona Commer lorries were a regular sight in the 1960s and 1970s.

Nothing to do with the “Coronavirus” of course Ray!
