I am, I often used to see them flashing past my 38 mph Highwayman when I was on Ilkeston Haulage, either running to and from Glasgow or down the Heads of the Valleys.

All the ones I saw were the B61s, which I was later to drive in Oz, but I never saw that R motor, I thought they had packed up before their day.

But they were all right hookers, imported from Oz I think.

Here is an earlier Harry Lawson yard picture, Buzzer

A R Marshall and Sons (Bulwell) Nottingham nmp

Marshall’s, a well known firm on the Nottingham scene for many years, I don’t know what became of them apart from assuming that they are no longer there.

When I was manager at Toray, just down the road, we had trouble with car parking in the street outside our factory which made it impossible for our night trunk to Hyde from getting access. We already hired stuff from Dawsonrentals in Marshall’s yard from time to time. and they agred to allow us to drop the first trailer of the night there and collect it in the morning.

What we didn’t know was that Dawsons hadn’t told Marshall’s and the dark stuff really hit the fan when one of their directors saw our trailer there and the gateman’s reports over several weeks.

He calmed down a bit when he realised that we gave him some work now and again but we still had to clear out and ended up paying Trowel services for the privelege.

Once most of the Marshall family had died off it was left for Howard Marshall to carry on by this time the company had sold their massive Bulwell site to land developers which became a huge retail park
Marshall’s then became MDS (Marshall Distribution Services)
They moved to a site near Balloon Wood just opposite the Gondola Pub
Sadly they ceased trading a few years later here’s a few more pictures not mine by the way

Thanks to gazsa401, DEANB and buzzer gor the pics    also all the craic  fine turnout of Marshall wagons
Yes Buzzer old to have been on the A6 when they were going by. This one with a Cardiff reg
Oily

Oily another good looking truck here just needs those stupid little flags removed from the windscreen no room for them in a truck looking that fine, your P&S picture the truck had rear wings fitted so don’t know when that law came in, cheers Buzzer

If you look very closely Dave, the B reg is a left ■■■■■■,1st picture.

There used to be a fair few of the Maxidynes around Brisbane back in the day. One in particular that must have been an owner driver in green with no name. Joey box, arm hooked through the wheel changing gear, roll up hanging out the mouth while he’s stop start along Ann St through Newstead etc. I drove an International eight legger with a joey box. Oh what fun I had.

You’re right, David, also the one all tarted up with extra euro style mirrors in the last one. So that’s at least 3 that I never saw in real life. :unamused: . However, given that they roared past me at a speed differential of 20 mph and usually in the dark (which is why we christened them ‘Christmas trees’) it’s hardly surprising I missed them.

Can’t remember what the P&S stood for but I seem to recall that they were based in Rotherham as well.

Oily another for you to identify plus an older picture, wonder if it is the same Hanson of today, Buzzer

Bit of an unusual headboard on the Mack of Latin/French… to the stars/Scotland, part RAF motto, the Mack might have been a flyer  .

The Lyon’s Tea van, are those snow chains or an early form of bogie drive (6x4)?

Bet it was a bugger to turn in tight spots though. :unamused:

pv83 there are two pictures you have posted which are quite close to where I live, the Southern Counties Agricultural Trading Society more commonly known in my life as SCATS had lots of branches in Hampshire and around , in the end they were swallowed up by Mole Valley Farmers. The second picture of Sandy & Son is real close to my house about 2 miles in fact and I noticed the telephone number was Locks Heath No2 so they must have been one of the early ones to be connected by phone, but back then nearly all houses would have used coal, thanks Buzzer.

Froggy55:
I’m wondering if any of you could be some help to identify where exactly I took this picture c. 1972. Certainly in the East End of London; there’s an Underground (maybe DLR nowadays) station with possibly a railway bridge in the far background. Only British cars there. Thanks.

Nick Catford, from the very good website “Disused Stations”, identified formally the spot as Pedley Street and the station as the former Shoreditch Station, closed in 2006.
I took the picture looking westwards, and that’s what the place looks like nowadays (Google Street View). The brick block on the left was built in place of J&M Furniture

Great thanks to Nick for his kindness and promptness; I had a reply within minutes after my request this morning!
