The Foden was carefully selected as other standard lorries had been grounded before now apparently ,also check out the delivery point too

Retired Old ■■■■:
If memory serves it was Enzo Ferarri who christened Bentley, “The fastest lorries in the world” due to the strength and weight of the cars.

Ettore Buggati actually ROF, but he was still an Italian so you were on the right (race) track.

Pete.

Thanks, Pete, I knew it was one of them damned foreigners!

Snapped today, he wasn’t hanging about and it did it sound good, a Bentley of yesteryear.
Oily

Well does look good & if the reg is correct SM 4 It would be Dec 1903.Of course it may be a cherished number  , There cant be many of these old cars still about sadley to say, Regards Larry.

Leyland600:
Larry the SM registration was the original Dumfriesshire registration mark one frequently seen here in ■■■■■■■ as we are the neighbouring county. If you can recall Road Services Caledonian 90% of their wagons bore an SM number. I wonder who SM 4 belonged to originally.?
Seen today passing through the narrow streets of the Muckle Toon o Langholm on the A7 this Scania 6 wheeler and trailer loaded with straw from the borderlands further north heading down towards ■■■■■■■■

There is quite a number of ‘1921-1931 Original Real Thoroughbred Vintage W.O.Bentley Motorcars’ that, although they are genuine Bentley Cricklewood,London,factory-built Bentley’s,they are in fact ’ Bentley Bitsa’s ’ re-built and made up from engines, bodies and other parts from other vintage Bentley cars. Some of which were scrapped while others have survived consisting of parts from other Bentley’s from the same era.

But it has to be said that a great deal of surviving Vintage Bentley motorcars are in original condition,i.e.they still have their original engines, gearboxes, bodies, etc. While a further number of Bentley’s have been converted from saloons and limousines,or whatever, into
sports roadsters! :exclamation: :unamused: Ridiculous! :exclamation:

The Bentley motorcar,SM 4,in OilTreader’s photograph is a ‘Bentley Bitsa’ . Thus it’s main details are as follows:-

Bentley 3-Litre . Chassis No.SR1402 . Engine No.1407 . Vanden Plas Body No.1263 . Original Registration YO 3997,London,May 1926.
Re-registered SM 4 ,Dumfries,Scotland,December 1903. Re-engined with Bentley 4 1/2 Litre 4398 CC Engine - No.RL3427.

Norman E.Box of Norman E.Box Ltd Heavy Haulage,Manchester?

Apparently,this actual 4 1/2 Litre engine,RL3427 was originally installed in Bentley 4 1/2 Litre,Freestone & Webb,Saloon Motorcar,Chassis No.FB3324 ,Registration VM 6475,Manchester,January 1929. Intriguingly,this car was bought by a N.E.Box - was this Norman E. Box of heavy road haulage fame,based in Manchester?  Anyway,this Mr.N.E.Box,or a later owner of VM 6475,did an engine swap: The 3-Litre engine of
the above YO 3997 - SM 4 ,engine No.1407 was installed in VM 6475 and it’s own 4 1/2 Litre engine,No.RL3427 was fitted into SM 4 - YO 3997! :exclamation:

Bentley 3 Litre,Vanden Plas 4-Seat,Convertable Motorcar,Chassis No.SR 1402,Body No.1263,Engine No.RL3427,SM 4,ex- YO 3997,London,May 1926.Re-engined with 4.398 litre engine RL 3427.TruckNetUK.3#:-

Morning Dirty dan,
Could you tell me why, in your photo of Eddie Stobart, you have a dead parachutist with a ■■■■■ sticking out of his back pack hanging in you windscreen. Harvey

Scammell Routeman tipper. Must have been one of the biggest selling 8 wheelers with tipper/muckaway
bodies sold in the 1970’s.
