At the lighter end of the market, what a welcome sight they were back in 1960. Almost a sleeper cab…if you weren’t too big of course.
Thanks to pv83 and DEANB for the pics

Well, the original Aussie pic from further up the page is a Western Star built at Sandbach, after Western Star became the holding company for ERF. The blurry picture is clearly a pre-production ERF EC, which didn’t go into full production until May 1993.
Cheers,
Robert.

Well does look good & if the reg is correct SM 4 It would be Dec 1903.Of course it may be a cherished number , There cant be many of these old cars still about sadley to say, Regards Larry.
Larry the SM registration was the original Dumfriesshire registration mark one frequently seen here in ■■■■■■■ as we are the neighbouring county. If you can recall Road Services Caledonian 90% of their wagons bore an SM number. I wonder who SM 4 belonged to originally.?
Seen today passing through the narrow streets of the Muckle Toon o Langholm on the A7 this Scania 6 wheeler and trailer loaded with straw from the borderlands further north heading down towards ■■■■■■■■

If memory serves it was Enzo Ferarri who christened Bentley, “The fastest lorries in the world” due to the strength and weight of the cars.
