Can’t believe that this is being left to rot…Sitting in a small yard next to Dalton’s scrap yard in Hermiston.Edinburgh…
That’s sad, someone should do that up.
Aye Bewick, I recall a marra with a single drive Reiver getting a rollicking off a young traffic cop when manoevering across a main road near Whitehaven trying to reverse into a farm lonning that rose up just a little from the road. Having dropped some 7 tons or so of basic slag elsewhere all the weight was on the front. As you can imagine the drive axle started dancing while the trailing axle remained stationary. The cop says " If you got some better tyres on that axle there would not be a problem" His more aware elder companion held his tongue for a while until he came out with the statement once more. The senior man then told him to shut up before he incurred the wrath of our driver hero. However the young cop did get a short sharp colourful rebuke from the pilot of the green and black Reiver as you can imagine. Exit one red faced cop.

The very last time I spoke to our Marra,he related a story about the same Reiver when it was new and he was at Kirkby Stephen auction mart and accompanied by “our Father”.The Albion wouldn’t reverse up the incline to the loading dock after numerous attempts! So our Marra said “thee stan’ back Father” so he had a flying run backwards onto the dock!!! I wish I’d been a fly on the wall,I can just imagine the heated exchanges of father and son !!! Those were the days,Cheers Bewick.
