Today’s selection from the AEC centenary rally.

If this AEC Mercury is Bannister’s original wagon then I took a black & white photo of it back in 1954 at the British Oil & Cake Mills feed mill at Selby. No amount of searching has turned up the photo. There were some Smith & Robinson AEC Mammoth Major tankers photographed the same day. Cheers Leyland 600.
I previously posted an A.W. Jenkinson wagon, here’s another two, they have a large fleet involved in forestry products, have a look here awjenkinson.co.uk/gallery.php.

Bit confused mate, are you referring to the the pictures of the Mercurys I took at the AEC centenary? Took pictures of two Bannister’s motors. The program entry for that the newer one says “CVL230L -Mercury-1973. New to Nitrovit and bought by Peter Bannister 1982. Worked until 1992, laid up for a few years and restoration finished 2006. Fitted with Neville Charrold body and Godfrey blower”. I expect you mean the earlier one next to it, description says " 2599 WE - Mercury-1958. Bought by Peter Bannister in 1988, restored over 4 years then worked part time and rallied until 1999. Now just rallied. Fitted with a Park Royal cab, AV470 engine and 6 speed box."

Hi Albion Yes I was referring to the Park Royal cabbed Mercury with the Sheffield registration. Although I have seen this wagon at various rallys I have never had a chance to ask the owner regarding its history, however it is certainly an exact replica of the one the company operated in the 1950s. Thanks for the info.
