Hi David this is the only other pic I took showing the ERF. I must admit I was more interested in the Dodge having worked on them in the 60s.

I fancy Ted Warner had a Dodge of about that age. Could it have been this one?

You would have to go on a rock climbing course, before driving this ! Imagine slipping on the top step getting
out the cab !! Not sure on the make of truck ?

Thanks John,looks quite a machine !

David

That’s some machine there Dean. Can it really be that somebody has gone to all that effort and all that aluminium (I suppose) sheet just to carry 4 cars can it?
Where is it from? Australia? Looks as though it’s right hand high altitude drive. Mind it would make you careful about bridge heights!
It’s a classic for sure. Thanks for the post.

David

Thanks to Buzzer, lurpak, Stanfield and DEANB for the pics     , the DEANB transporter well odd to say the least, just a slight advantage at bridges, drive up open cab door(hang on) hey :sunglasses: eye level with the bridge. Bridges and trees were a bugbear in my time, it was a chat with your mates in the driver’s room as to what to look out for on any given route, a few years later if I recall there was a bridge height “atlas” and then of course sat nav.
Came up against(not literally) 3 low bridges in my time, one turn back and find a different route, second let the top deck cars tyres down, pulled down on the suspension with the anchor chains, third unloaded the cars drove through and loaded again, the good old days, absolutely

1965 and favourite wagon, had it two years from new never missed a beat.

Nice ones Oily

Another strange truck !

Mr. Ford had great hopes for that rig but maybe he was a couple years ahead of the trends.

If I remember aright it had a gas turbine in it did it not?

Ok the truck is a Ford 5 car carrier operated by DeArco, cab was mounted above one of the cars, apparently it was expensive and difficult to use, it was built 1950.
