Yesterday I delivered grapes to the Penfold’s winery in Nuriootpa, South Australia, where this old Bedford is in daily use around the winery (it is a big winery). I’m not sure, but is an ‘O’ type Bedford? Sorry I didn’t get to look at the compliance plate and see what year she was built.
Late model “A” type, matey. Available with Bedford’s own petrol engine or the recently-introduced 300 diesel. Earlier model "A"s were powered by a Perkins P6 if you fancied an oiler.
Hello robert1952, youre right, the Leyland with the Ergo cab was very cramped in LHD form. However in the late sixties, I was working for British Leyland out of Aldenham and 3 of us spent 2 days at Tilbury loading LHD Leyland Hippos & 4 wheel draw-bar trailers on to a ship for the West Indies. They had high sided bodies and were painted green& cream but weren’t sign written, and believe me the driving position was " compact " shall we say. Our job was to remove " Slave batteries " for the voyage and the Dealer would equip them with new on delivery. Unfortunately some of the vehicles had to be driven after being craned aboard the ship, and this meant that some of them, when stowed in the hold, didn`t have enough room to tilt the cabs to remove the batteries so they went as they were. Hope this is of interest, Regards pushrod47

Could be Middlesborough, but by the colour of the cabin, I think it’s Newport transporter bridge. Deffo NOT Runcorn as those Dafs had not even been thought of when it was demolished - ye gods, am I THAT old!!!

Seems Volvo’s name for building a reliable tractor unit has gone down the drain…apparently that new FH serie isn’t all that good, lots of electronic faults…
Get rid of it now you still can Danne, might be worth a bit more then what you get for scrap
Re the 68year old Ford Pilot of Edwin Tippers he also took his 55 year old Zodiac round aaaned a Trebant with no smoke coming out of the exhaust.Yes it was going.
Now Buzzer I reckon that that ERF Steer will need you and your tractor to get it off that ■■■■■■ parking ground 'cause I bet it won’t get off under it’s own steam !! Cheers Dennis. PS Great shot though all the same !
Hi Dennis, That ERF was designated a 56TSG = 5 cylinder, 6 wheeler, twin steer, Gardner. Jazzer Johnston , Gilcrux had LAO 56 new 9/08/1951 and Snowball Stamper, Dearham had LAO 903 new 25/03/52
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Thanks for that info Gerald, I bet they were gutless with only having the 5 LW engine, would they have been 18 ton GVW ? same as the AEC Mustang. Cheers Dennis.
Dennis, ERF rated this twin steer at 15 1/4 tons gross it had an ULW of 4t-15cwt-0qtrs thus giving 10 1/2 tons payload however GVW did not mean much back then so it probably carried a bit more. knowing the owner I would be surprised if it didn’t.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
