kev mentions mixers , now up to date but no less attention to cleaning, the working parts I mean, mebbe even more so compared to days gone by when a hosepipe and plenty water was enough.
Oily
Hiya Oily,
Now, I donât know a thing about mixers, however that doesnât stop me to ask some questionsâŚ
That KW in that second pic, is that fitted with a extra axle? If so, is that to reduce weight on the driving axles
Stumbled upon these, does anyone recognise the unit
Hi Patrick, quoted as an answer to a query on axle configuration stateside "Apparently, it has to do with axle weight limits for trucks. The amount of weight that a truck can have per axle is decided by the department of transportation in each U.S. state. When you load a dump truck with gravel, the weight can easily exceed the per-axle limit, so the extra wheels/axles are lowered to make the truck legal."

Cheers for that Oily, I already reckoned it had to do sommat with that, mate of mine emigrated to Canada some years ago, if heâs southbound going with machinery, heâs got to fiddle about with extra axles as wellâŚquite a system those yankâs got
Hi Oily, no lacation given for the E.N. Farrer motor, given that they are based in Brampton, I guess thats where the photo was taken. Although I often see their wagons locally this is one I haveânt seen.

This is a KM Bedford 6 Wheeler that I bought in 1979 for
Rank Hovis flour deliveries. It is seen here parked at a
corn merchant near Milnthorpe. I cannot remember the
name of the corn merchant, but I imagine Mr Bewick
will know the location. The little Ford D Series at the
rear belonged to the corn merchant. Regards, Ray Smyth.
Youâve got me there Ray ! especially around Milnthorpe ! Cheers Bewick.
Hello Dennis, Thank you for the reply. Regarding the Corn and Grain Merchant,
I seem to think it was not far from the main traffic lights on the A6,in the centre
of Milnthorpe, where there was a bakery, which was also a regular delivery point.
For the 18 years that I did the Rank Hovis work, my main area was Preston,Blackpool,
Cleveleys, Fleetwood etc, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Wednesday and Friday,
it could be anywhere, Buxton, Liverpool, Holyhead. It was mainly in the busy summer
months that we would deliver to your area, thousands more day trippers and holiday
makers to feed. Two particular deliveries come to mind, Riggs bakery in Kendal, and
a butchers shop on Finkle Street. Long walk up a ginnel with 30 x 32kg bags of flour.
Once you were parked on Finkle Street, only cars could get past, and it took about
30 minutes on your own to do the delivery. The regular owner driver who did your
area was Walter Cochrane from Lindale, near Grange Over Sands. Perhaps you knew him.
Kind Regards, Ray Smyth.
The delivery in Finkle St. would have been Brennands who made the finest meat and tatie pies in the UK ! Long gone now but their recipe is still used and advertised locally ! Iâve heard of Walter Cochrane but didnât know him, he passed away last year I believe. Cheers Dennis.

Hi Leyland600⌠to quote Ray Forster âHere is E&N.Farrer of Carlisleâs Scania P420 8x4, Armcon Cement Mixer, reg no. G1 MXA (Good plate for a mixer!). The photo was taken on Botchergate, Carlisle.â
Hi Oily, Thanks, yes I can see it is Botchergate when I blow up the image, King St and Whiteheads bike shop immediately behind the wagon. Spot On.!!
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Thanks for the pic Robert , it is a Belgian built Auto-Miesse, they used initially Gardner, then Detroit Diesel power, also some connection with BĂźssing before demise in 1968. Some info here viewtopic.php?f=35&t=114139&start=0

Ah, thanks! Thereâs actually a good thread on here about Auto-Miesse. cheers, Robert
Looking at the reg number for the 8x4 heavy hauler, it looks like one of Allelyâs motors - it may be one of their Ginaf DAF specials
Regards
Ed
Hiya Ed,
If you look close enough (or long enough) at the pic then youâll discover that it is indeed one of AllelyâsâŚnever saw this particular wagon before thoughâŚ
