Thanks to robert1952 for the pica fine looking machine.
This one definitely in OZ.
OilyIâd like to drive that round the Colchester multiple roundabout system on a Saturday morning just for the hell of it! Robert
Youâd be surprised how well they actually track.
Iâve taken quite a few of them round roundabouts.

Wow! That must be some kind of sliding kingpin? Read that we had some here but they were then forbidden.Danne
No idea how that works mate, canât imagine it just turns like thatâŚ
Another pic of pushing things to the limitâŚ
The 5th wheel is solid and doesnât move, there a sort of A frame draw bar linking the âtrailerâ to the truck, the back part of the container / body sits on a slider so that when it goes round a corner or over a bump it can move about. When it goes round a tight corner IE coming out the Blonc on the Italian side the front corner of the body sticks out a 3 to 4 meters. I met one of Vim Vossâs there one day and though I was going home minus a cab. I think the Italians and Spanish banned them.

Just as well! The sheer length of the combination would be enough to confound the natives, even with superb tracking! Robert

Thanks to servo88 for the pics, I note the Austin A40 has an Edinburgh reg.
Wolsingsham eh, went there 2007 to do a pre arranged campervan buy with Robsons, shook hands on a part exchange deal, which they later reneged on, wanting more money, bah humbugno deal.

Metal bar above the half brick, stone etc, and braced against chassis member or ground for purchase, gentle roll backwards or forwards.

I had a really useful tommy bar, which i had borrowed off, someone when i worked as a mechanic on Birmingham City Transport,
When i left i forgot to hand it back.
I had a flat at Longcliffe one day and used it when i changed wheels just outside the entrance.
I never saw it again.
Poetic justice.!!

This M.A.N day cab 6x2 pusher was used by Christian Salvesen on a cross channel trunk for a while in the 80s.
The pin was of course in front of the drive axle.
I watched it several times in Salvesens Easton depot , the front swing on the trailer when manouvering was frightening.
I donât think it lasted very long.
Thanks to revman and pyewacket947v for the pics
Not overdone with light bars, just about right IMHO

This is a KM Bedford 6 Wheeler that I bought in 1979 for
Rank Hovis flour deliveries. It is seen here parked at a
corn merchant near Milnthorpe. I cannot remember the
name of the corn merchant, but I imagine Mr Bewick
will know the location. The little Ford D Series at the
rear belonged to the corn merchant. Regards, Ray Smyth.
Youâve got me there Ray ! especially around Milnthorpe ! Cheers Bewick.

When I had my mixer, stones and bricks wedged between their wheels were a regular occupational hazard. As Oily says a metals bar ( I usually used the wheelbrace) wedged against the chassis did the trick, it was definitely quicker than loosening all the nuts and jacking up the axle. I can hear the H&S jobsworths collective sharp breath
. Some of the loonies I worked with were too bloody greedy to take the time to remove a stone, but I had horror of what might happen if the obstruction came out at speed!! My time on the mixer was not my favourite experience as a haulier
l hated the job!! Regards Kev

, now up to date but no less attention to cleaning, the working parts I mean, mebbe even more so compared to days gone by when a hosepipe and plenty water was enough.

Or what about this one, quite a cute machine with self loading hopper.

Hello Dennis, Thank you for the reply. Regarding the Corn and Grain Merchant,
I seem to think it was not far from the main traffic lights on the A6,in the centre
of Milnthorpe, where there was a bakery, which was also a regular delivery point.
For the 18 years that I did the Rank Hovis work, my main area was Preston,Blackpool,
Cleveleys, Fleetwood etc, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Wednesday and Friday,
it could be anywhere, Buxton, Liverpool, Holyhead. It was mainly in the busy summer
months that we would deliver to your area, thousands more day trippers and holiday
makers to feed. Two particular deliveries come to mind, Riggs bakery in Kendal, and
a butchers shop on Finkle Street. Long walk up a ginnel with 30 x 32kg bags of flour.
Once you were parked on Finkle Street, only cars could get past, and it took about
30 minutes on your own to do the delivery. The regular owner driver who did your
area was Walter Cochrane from Lindale, near Grange Over Sands. Perhaps you knew him.
Kind Regards, Ray Smyth.

Hiya Oily,
Now, I donât know a thing about mixers, however that doesnât stop me to ask some questionsâŚ
That KW in that second pic, is that fitted with a extra axle? If so, is that to reduce weight on the driving axles
Stumbled upon these, does anyone recognise the unit
Cheers, Patrick
