Nice one Ray , that takes me back to my youth, my dad 1898-1958 was for most part of his working life a council roadman and one of the winter jobs was perched on the back of a wagon with a colleague, spreading grit, their action was an alternate sweep with slightly less than half a shovelful which had been previously loaded again by shovel. Aberdeen County Council wagons were AECs at that time a bit like the one in the pic with the crew hut on the back but with conventional rear wheel drive with a 3 way tipper body.

The heading says Daf, the unit is clearly a Ford V8, a translation of other text with the pic gives no mention of the Ford but that the trailer is 1936 Daf axle container. Did Daf make trailers .

Aye they did mate, in fact, that’s how they got started…DAF= van Doornes Aanhangwagen Fabriek, that roughly translates into van Doornes Drawbar unit works, it was much later that they started to build lorries and cars.
They’ve got a very interesting history, and they had some real proper inventions.
Have got some books at home with all the details… but I can’t help you any further now, because I’m “out and about” for the moment…
Cheers, Patrick
I wonder what the story behind this unlikely-looking Leyland is! Robert
I would hazard a guess at somewhere in Australia ■■?
With those drive axles it looks a sturdy bit of kit.

I’d like to drive that round the Colchester multiple roundabout system on a Saturday morning just for the hell of it! Robert
Robert do you mean just the tractor unit ? went to Brands Hatch when truck racing first started here never been since reckon it would be much more fun with a 20ft skelly with a fully loaded container aboard eh ! Buzzer
Beautiful pic of one of Van Steenbergen’s Krupp drawbar outfits. This was a very interesting Belgian company based in Arendonk. They’re still going! Robert

In that case, it would be more fun to reverse it round the system to terrify the Colchester shoppers - rather you than me though ! Robert
Whent to Finland/Suomi for the first load of the year. Me and my friend were of to Tempere. We shipped from kapelskär to Nantali. Then about 160km to load a metso 130 cruiser. It comes in two part witch then they dock together. My part was the bottom part. 21.5 meters and 59000kg. And Roberts abit shorter but 73000kg.

Or round the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, I’ve never dared take my car round but I sure as hell would take that road train round.

No desire ever for the bigger motorhome Ade, that one is a Niesmann-Bischoff Arto have a look here at a sister youtube.com/watch?v=KiKhuEY7FNE, lottery money Unless you are forever touring they are sat idle for most of the time, bad for tyres and and other working parts including the habitation area, water pump, fridge etc, etc.for me a diesel thrives on working
The transporter now that’s a different story, tho’ the preference would be an triple deck artic combo, oh I dream
couldn’t be faffed with all that interfangle of multi decks of the one in your photo.
Who remembers these trucks running round delivering, think it was 1s & 3d a bottle then you got 3d back for the empty, when we were nippers we rode our bikes miles to visit untold red phone boxes pressing button B to see if four penny’s dropped out which was the cost of a call back then and when we had enough we would spend it on a bottle of pop, Cheers Buzzer.
