Thanks for that link Oily, the damage is unbelievable and the amount of debris that has come down onto the main railway and road.
Cheers, Leyland 600

Canât see any.Pity I couldnât get to the show.I liked the 400E van.I went to Harrogate in 1957 to hear all about them.A couple of things that came to mind was that the 400E was a 12cwt model but another badge would make it into a 15cwt model and probably some other bits which competed with the C.F.They came out with a three speed gearbox ,J.H.Allen had one but changed it to the four speed.Sometimes the gear box controls used to get mixed up but get the starting handle from behind the seats, lift up the engine cover and sorted.I thought the side loading door was a bit strange but what was a good idea was the wooden floor so it stopped flat all itâs life.Ford offered a Diesel version with the Perkins 499.Crap I thought.
When the Transit came out our first stock one was a a red one which the CO-Op bought.I sat in it and it had a gear lever as fat a hardshaft on a Trader. I thought these wonât sell.-------Wrong.
Reliable as all the bank robbers used them
Sorry Iâm off again!

Got it wrong Rob.Designed as a 15cwt and there was a 12cwt which was a 15cwt that was a rebadged version with a few mods.

Here is a video taken from a pick up truck driving north on SH 1 towards Kaikoura after the earthquake. The damage to both road and railway running parallel will take months to restore.

Odd photos from 1960
Great picture of the McKelvie Leyland Octopus MHS 56 Fleet #39.
My late father trunked this vehicle for McKelvie in the late 50s early 60
s from Manchester to Paisley and back the following night.
My Dad came off trunk when MHS 56 was transferred to Motherwell depot, and it is pictured doing heavy haulage from there.
I think the load it is transporting came out of Motherwell Bridge Engineering.

Thanks for that Leyland600, bad bad bad that is, fixing will take years rather than months I guess, the parts that look okay on the surface may well give problems at a later date.
