Hi Robert, what are the details of your Titan ? I had Rawtenstall 18 a Leyland bodies PD2/12 way back in 1976 which I took to numerous rallies. This bus has just come back on the presevation /wedding hire guise this summer down in Somerset after being virtually unused since I sold it back to Rawtenstall in 1982.
Cheers, Leyland 600PCW 946, re-registered RFP 687B just before it was withdrawn from service. Titan PD2A/27 (so ‘St Helens’ style LAD-cab cowl). Chassis L01545. Leyland 0,600 engine with manual gearbox. Built 1963. Body was (No. 5871) was a highbridge 64-seat (37/27) Northern Counties with electric front entrance. Owners: Burnley Colne & Nelson; Burnley & Pendle; Hornsby, Scunthorpe (dealer); Stephensons of Uttoxeter; then I bought it 26 years ago, swept the previous day’s tickets off the floor and converted it into a caravan. I sold it to the bus place in Lydney, Glos after which it was rumoured to have become a playbus in Bradford. Robert
Any pics Robert? I know it’s not lorries, but I’m sure Oily won’t mind!
John.

Yes! Here’s a pic I took in the yard at Spath, just seconds before climbing into the cab and driving it back to Kent. Robert

BIG mistake using that word ROF. The alarm bells and lights are flashing in MI6 or whatever they’re called nowadays. David Cameron has been called back to the house. The SWAT team is heading your way. Better switch off the computer and deny all knowledge!‘But it’s the name of a car from the 1960s’ won’t wash with those guys. Hope you’re ready for waterboarding.
John
It’s not my fault, guv!
As most will know, Isis was the ancient name for what is now known as the River Thames. Even some of you Northern blokes may have heard of it?

According to the BBC you should say “so called” ISIS, then it’s OK.
Bernard
Still called the Isis through Oxford itself. Anyway, the Morris Isis had the 6 pot engine and the Oxford the 4 cylinder. The Cowley had a smaller 4 cylinder unit. Like the Guy Big J really, most had 6 cylinder AEC, Leyland and Gardners and about 40 camera shy ones had 8 cylinder percys…
Pete.

Nice one Robert , I’ve done a few shifts on the earlier bodied Titans, music to the ears that engine was, so capable and reliable.

Willie Borthwicks Atki which I can remember is lurking all sheeted up in yard belonging to the Codona family in Stirling. Registered NRM 943 Chassis No FC 3222 with ULW of 3ton 19cwt. first registered 07/05/1954.
Cheers Leyland 600.
Really? So it’s still intact ?
Have you got any photos by any chance.
I remember a guy called Freddy Cooper from Silloth drove it around 1965ish.
W. Bothwick as far as I remember also had a Leyland with a square grille (don’t know the proper name of model …was it Buffalo?) and an Albion (or Leyland) painted brown, and signwritten still in the previous owner’s colours, think it was 3 letter initials RTJ? Joe ‘Shafty’ Robinson drove it at the time.
He also had a Dodge driven by Dave Joyce, and a BMC Austin DRM 921C, which my Dad got new. The BMC was later driven by Viv Lightfoot from Silloth when my Dad left.
I remember Dave and Viv had an accident with each other in the BMC and Dodge, allegedly racing.
Around 1981 I was driving for Edgars at Kirkbride on an ERF artic, I was delivering Steel to Bendalls in their old yard at Carlisle where B&Q is now, the BMC was scrapped in a corner, it had Bendall’s name on it, but I recognised the reg right away as the motor I went with my Dad in as a kid…, no phone cameras then unfortunately.
Don’t suppose you have any info on these trucks, or better still pics do you?
Thanks L600 for the info about the Atkis anyway
