Hi Eddie, That is about 10 miles from me, here is a link. theinvergordonarchive.org/pi โ€ฆ er1395.asp the Blytheswood warehouse is the one left of centre in the pic. the building and pier is where they weld together pipe lengths for north sea oil rig to shore pumping of crude. The pipe lengths arrive by road. That is where the Scania mounted recover crane would have worked at or from.
A pic for you, a firm from your corner.

Thanks for the quick reply, what a view that is wee used to holiday in Inverness for a good few years it was a good centre for touring the north. The first time wee came up was 65 to a static van on a site in Cromarty and I allways remember there was a chap who was the Lighthouse keeper,Fireman,Coalman,Window cleaner,Taxi operator.he was on the go all day every day.
Eddie.

Hi Oilreader, I noted your reply to erfguy, and have looked at the link you published . This is a great view of the Highland Deephaven site. I have driven past this site many times over the past 15 years and am intrigued as to how they can weld such long lengths of pipe together then wind them onto a drum on the pipelaying vessel at the end of the pier. I have asked a few contacts in your area but no one can give me an anwer. Can you.โ– โ–

oiltreader Re;Traveller Dave. Have you contacted him lately? The last time I emailed him ( Long time ago)he was sitting it out in France in a broken down Albion 4 wheeler box van. He couldnโ€™t get the parts so he had to stay put. He wanted to post on here but he thought that the โ€˜professionalโ€™ drivers would be biased towards his way of life.

Hi Harry, being aware of his website for a couple of years or more, I e-mailed him a few weeks ago, asking permission for posting his pics on here, his reply was something along the lines of โ€œAt least I had asked, as he was peed off with seeing his pictures posted on the net without permissionโ€. He contrbutes to a few blogs, so I will check them out to see what he is at.

Hi Leyland600, I have wondered myself how they are able to coil fairly large diameter pipe onto the reel, one of my neighbours is a welder on one of those sites, he might know, heโ€™s working nightshift so I havnโ€™t seen him for a while, anyway with a bit of โ€œgooglingโ€ hereโ€™s a bit more insight, pipe laying ships (mebbe the same one) in the Cromarty Firth and at the end of the Evanton Spool Base pier.

Some more from the same source and collection. Lomount Heavy Vehicles using Rotinoff Atlantics were based at Colnbrook in the early 60s, others will may well know more about the firm.
