All the times I spent roaming around his yard - - - I would never have recognised him!! Mind you, I never, ever, saw him so smartly dressed - greasy brown overalls only!

Well Steve I don’t remember him in greasy overalls at least not when I saw him which was a lot from 1957.Do you remember Jarv Lee who went there. He lived in a caravan at the back of the Airport cafe at Burnaston.
Fred Harrison was there aswell but he might have been learning the job and he didn’t do so bad as a pupil did he ?

I have to confess I don’t remember Mr Lee, but I do remember the caravan at the Airport Cafe - bilmey, how many can recall the Airport Cafe nowadays?
(I do recall several other Lees who live in caravans around Long Lane and Langley Common - my ex-sister in law married one of 'em - perhaps the same family?)

And yes, Fred aint done too badly for himself, has he!

Jarv had a couple of sons.Jarv and Bill I think young Jarv went to live in a house in Hanbury near the church but I don’t know where is now.The was a Charlie Lee who lived in a caravan at the farm where Jim Cotton lived at Wilslock and I sold him a couple of motors.I remember sitting outside in a little fenced off area and having a cup of tea and his wife Rosey came out with a big cream doughnut well you can’t refuse as they can be offended.Rosey lives in Uttoxeter now opposite the old Elite cinema. There was or still is a chap called Benny Lee and he lives on the Branston Road in Burton
Re the airport cafe do you remember the pub on the opposite side of the road which I can’t remember the name.We had a bit of ground there and when the Dexta came out we used to demonstrate it there.Nice little tractor.Another thought alot of these travelling lads had these loveley caravans and spotless. They used to keep plastic covering the seats. The Lees I met were good honest folk as were the Wilsons from York.I might have told you this but I did a deal with Fred Harrison for a Trader sitting on the outside window cill of the Bowling Green in Ashbourne.Where are all these folk now.I know we have to keep up with the tmes but there is like cars a lot more to go wrong on these motors now but I suppose they must be more comfortable but I bet those chaps and their bosses who are pulling their hair out ( if any) stuck down South and across the sea.

Hi stanfield, this AEC Mercury was unearthed in the former North western Electricity Board main depot in Carlisle about three years ago where it has been kept for many years on standby as an emergency generator.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Hi stanfield seeing a colour photo of the Leyland Badger on Flickr reminds me of seeing Leylands out on test runs around Leyland a frequent sight in the 1960s. I remember seeing them while tipping a load of flour at Clayton Le Woods.

The Albion Chieftain with the SM registration was new to Robert Waugh & Co of Annan just one of their smart fleet of Albions hauling timber and agricultural goods in Dumfrieshire and North ■■■■■■■■ I saw them regularly and used to pass their garage frequently when running up to SW Scotland with animal foodstuffs etc and buildong materials.
Cheers, Leyland 600

The 1961 Albion Clydesdale 6042SM is now owned by a lad called John Murphy and is fitted with a Leyland 400 engine, after the run to Harrogate he said it had ran has sweet as a nut. Here she is just leaving Birch Services with John at the wheel.

No 240 badges on these

Thanks to servo88, Stanfield and pete smith for the pics

A few Bedfords thanks to those who share, first pic a WT model same type as gave me my driving test pass 1952 and aye it was getting on a bit, in fact it kept the local garage proprietor going in hot dinners, mostly cooling system problems and the cable wiring to the rear lights, forever failing, not at all weatherproof.
