Late 70’s shot through the windscreen of a Frigoscandia Volvo going over Mt. Cenis, note the spread axle trailer, of course lots used to go to Italy MT to load peaches back then and they were hand balled on in trays not a pallet to be seen,

Hi oilreader,a mix bag of photos taken A1, some from last year crane services with scections for the new forth crossing, bumper

In this sleepy little Spanish market town of Almoradi, we have a small back-street workshop whose raison d’etre seems to be the manufacture and fitting of extra long-range fuel tanks for operators and dealers from all over Spain. These are today’s arrivals from the Volvo dealership in Murcia city.

In my day, we used to have to apply copious quantities of grease to the turntable, but these seem to have some sort of inserts in the faces. Have I missed something?

Steve

Thanks to rastone, Gardner 120, Buzzer, servo88 , bumper and Ste46:    a grand input.

Hi Oily, pm for you,cheers.

Was the Universal Motor Company, Derby, the same firm Tony, a pal of mine has a small two stroke engine that they made and there are also much larger ones in preservation around the globe?

Pete.

No Pete you’ve caught me out on that.Universal Car Co were main Ford dealers and apart from selling them they suplied other dealers in Derby like C.H.Allen in Duffield,Rowditch Motor co and Kays who were well into the commercial job but they were V.W. dealers in Ashbourne Road and being into the commercial job sold a lot of Fords which we supplied.Ford dealers were just playing lorries then.BUT THEN THE TRADER and the job began to improve.I sold the first one a four cylinder 5 tonner with a factory body. Here is a copy of the invoice which I put on another site which I know you seen before.I was doing my National Service in 1959 -1961 as a tractor operator mechanic in the Airfield Construction Branch which was a lot better than being a medic or in the cookhouse, operating D.8s We were taken over by T.C. Harrison while I was away so a bit of a change in the job but I did go over one Christmas and sold a D.Series to the Trader customer They built a new showroom in St Helens Street which Radio Derby has got now and they then bought Cox’s lead works on Normanton Road before moving the Commercials down to Chequers Road.It changed a bit when Iveco went in with Ford but I can’t tell you what I know as it’s a long story.T.C.H.bought Reads of Peterborough and Nixons of Newcastle ( Staffs) but They have a lot of car dealers around Peterborough and many J.C.B.Dealers.They took over Craners in Burton.I think they only sell Transits in Commercials.I’m glad I’m out of it but am still interested but it’s all targets and computer and management like M.P.s who perhaps haven’t even been in a Transit.or is that being a bit non p.c.

Sorry chaps seem to be going off the subject of the site so I’d better put something on it

Tony

Hi Steve, a bit here… A fifth wheel insert, laminate composite and method of construction, which insert includes a cap or cover having mount tabs for tack-welding the insert on a fifth wheel. The laminate composite includes a composite of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene resin and one or more modulus of elasticity modifier such as carbon fibres and is designed to be secured to the fifth wheel of a tractor, the coupling plate of a trailer or to the insert mounted on the fifth wheel, in order to reduce friction and eliminate the need for greasing the fifth wheel-trailer coupling.
