Greetings.All.
Ref. RAS 713,the Triumph Roadster,it was also known as the Triumph 1800.It had column change on the right of the steering wheel and the headlamps were in those days “Single Dip”.As you can see the dickey seat came out of the boot and had it’s own windscreen.A mate of mine had one when I was in the R.N.,and we used to come up to London for weekend leave in it.I think the engine went on to become the engine for the first Standard Vanguard Phase one, another grand car.All the best,regards,900x20.

I think you will find the Triumph 1800 was a saloon and a good looker. It had a razor edge design.
Tony

The Triumph cars with the razor edge touch IIRC Were named The Renown The Mayflower, & The sporty one The Gloria with the dicky seat, Regards Larry.

The old memory isn’t as good as I thought it was. Back to the garden !!

I wonder if anybody could identify the make of this motor.I thought it might be a Peerless but I have doubts as whilst the radiator has a similar radiator shape the dimensions on the top don’t look quite right and I can’t find anything like that.I’ve compared a few and they don’t really seem to match

It does look about right because how the cab sides are and the chain drive looks the same.Pity we couldn’t see the radiator but I have pic of a Leyland of J.H.Allen and will check that.

If these were both Jack’s motors, Tony, NU is local but PC is a long way from home (Guildford) especially in those days! Did Doug ever mention it, but I think it was well before his time.

Yes well before Doug’s time.I think D0ug was late 70’s when he died. The other one might have belonged to Dennis Derham and bought Second hand.Must havetaken about three days to get from Guildford.

Hi Kevmac, Who does the blue and cream Olympian belong to ? I saw that United Bristol RE in National Bus Co venitian blind livery at the South Shields Tyne Tees Rally, it would look much better in its original standard United red and cream dual purpose coach livery. The Venture Leyland Leopard looked absolutely super, I would have loved to have got my hands on it for a wee hurl doon the road having operated a few Leopards in my time.
Cheers. Leyland 600

Sorry Gerald I can’t help you on the Olympian’s owner, I saw it at the storage garage used by a few owners.
Although I’m sure someone on the thread will have the info. Regards Kev.

Not wishing to be picky but NU and RA were Derbyshire and CH and RC were Derby. We used to tax the motors for the County at the offices in Irongate and I think you went to The Derby Council house but I’m not sure if might have been the Post Office in Station Road for the city but then it all went to Nottingham where we had to go and a right pain in the arse that was and taking an insurance cover note from the owner. Now of course you don’t even need cover notes.
Steve
Do you remember the weighbridge outside the Market Hall in the market place in Derby ?

Tony

You’re making out I’m as old as you, now, Tony! Unfortunately, I do remember it (just) but I can’t recall ever seeing anything being weighed on it.

Steve

Steve
Good bloke on that weigh bridge I took an order for a Trader 75 tipper with a wooden body from Fred Harrison and it had to be 3t U.L.W.So like an honest salesman I said no problem. It wasn’t of course but a special build with singles all round and no passenger seat and a full tank of Diesel —well I thought there wasn’t that much in !.We had to uncouple the artics and weigh both bits.I think all the dealers used that. When it closed we all went to Thos Hills on Alfreton Road.
I think the sliding window is still there at least it was when I looked ,sealed up of course.I’ll try and have another look when I go to Derby again and take a photo.
If I remember wooden bodies were the ones for the stone lads and steel for the gravel.Alloy wasn’t used much then but it soon changed.

Tony

Broadband been down, but up & running now so here we go servo

Thanks to rastone, Lawrence Dunbar, kevmac47, Leyland600, Andrew Morrison and servo88 a fine input
