Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

Thats Oirish whusky on the back of the Atki Buzzer.

Hi Coca Cola Kid, You have some good shots of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board floating crane “Sampson” built by Cowans Sheldon & Co Carlisle where I served my apprenticeship. I remember being on Albert Dock at Liverpool about 1978 to pick up a load of bulk ■■■■ seed when one of the guys in the shed leased to Bibbys called me over and took me up to the outer dock wall where he pointed out an Irish owned Scania artic which had gone over the evening before. The driver from Carlisle had gone roaring up the alleyway towards the dock wall and braked on the wet granite sets coated with ■■■■ meal and immediately went straight on instead of turning left on the way out. The result being the whole outfit dived into the Mersey loaded with 20 tons or so of ■■■■ meal, however that next morning all that remained some 500 yards furher down the river was a Scania with no windscreen and an empty trailer. I believe the unit was only a few months old. Ouch !!!

Cheers Leyland 600.

Hi Buzzer, Cormack’s Orkney based shunter is a good friend of mine with whom when on holiday in Orkney I occasionally get a wee hurl as a passenger through the Orkney Mainland in a modern DAF delivering sheep from Lairg auction mart, this renewed my acquaintance with livestock haulage when I was driving an LAD cabbed Albion Clydesdale way back in 1962.
Cheers Leyland 600

Of course they have. It’s just that their Calor gas powered computers aren’t compatible with our modern electronic machines.

Don’t know what make or model but a removal outfit from way back when, cheers Buzzer.
