Can’t you hear the “Noises of the engines, the shouts of the men & the stamping of the horses, & the smells (not just the horses :unamused: )”. Never to be seen again Transport Street scene :frowning:

Love this one Chris -very typical double parked loading cheeses middle of road ha ha  the good old days!

I reckon the old boy in the foreground is on the dog and bone, checking with logistics for what to do next… not much  .

It’s a bus Oily. There is no chassis these days and this is a front subsection and rear subsection tacked together
to allow it to be driven to a bodybuilder. The body then becomes the structure with all the strength and these
bits bolt onto it.

A closer view of the Austin ( Tilly ) Utility Pick Up.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

More specifically it’s a (Scania) coach subframe, as the front bit is built high over a straight axle so obviously going to make a higher-floor vehicle. Buses nowadays are all low floor with very specific front axle engineering to allow a flat floor all the way to the rear axle for easy access- god knows how they move them to body builders - a lot of bracing going on I imagine!

It’s a bus chassis. Send it to the body builders like that, front on back are separated, bus body built on and voila, new bus.
Sorry truckfing, I’ve only just seen your post.

I did’nt fancey that job back then, driving just a chassis, wearing goggles and sitting in the open and it’s raining cats and dogs. At least thumbing a ride back home on trade plates they’d have a cab to sit in
I can’t imagine the H&S gents let them drive like that anymore though

Charles

hi oilreader, a few more from old bill’s negatives, bill originate from the manchester area, hence the photos seem to be of outfit’s from that neck of the woods, bumper

I dunno - judging by the exhaust on that chassis that’s a recent pic. Looks like a deathtrap, the chair must be riveted/bolted to the ply floor but there’s a lovely gap to fall down in front of the front wheels!
