I remember when RAH had an LBS 76 Scania Vabis (or was it an LBT?) it used to come into the Scania agents now and again for odd jobs, the ERF would only be a couple of years old then so I presume they ran them at the same time.

I believe it would be this one,the first 6 wheeled vabis in GB,i was told this by a good pal who worked there in the 60s.P.S.i don’t know why it has a triaxle trl on in this photo.
That’s the very motor in question Vic and yes I seem to recall it was the first 6 leg unit sold, Beck and Politzer and Joseph Foulkes had similar units at the same time, I wonder if that is at York trailers at Cannock ?

Trev i’m not sure, i worked round the corner from their yard at Stillers, both Ray the lad who worked at RAH and myself knew they had’nt any tri axles and all their trailers had no headboards its not their yard as they didn’t have any tipper trailers as seen in the photo.
Grand lot of input thanks to truckfing, kevmac47, Stanfield, cattle wagon man , v7victor and VALKYRIE for info.

Your avatar caught my eye, I’m guessing Lagonda, early 50s or maybe Hispano Suiza, I used to drool over car mags of that era and think… one day, (my transport at that time was a bike, a Humber Clipper with drop handle bars. Sturmey Archer 3 speed and Miller dynamo) hey I’m off again on a memory trip

Alford ,
That must have been a trawl up from Penzance to “The Smoke” in this Old Girl!
The Metal Box motors…why have they only got 1 spotlight(?) on the front passenger side??
I’m led to believe that it was used to flash a motor in that was overtaking basically to light up the verge.

Only guessing here but could it be something to do with the thick fogs we used to have years ago and it was an helpful guide for seeing the pavements and parked cars.I remember has a kid in the 50/60s walking along with a torch to guide cars and such along the road when it was dense with fog.
I love old pics like this , you don’t get them anymore unless they are posed for a advertising/magazine article, because unfortunately there isn’t the camaradary amongst drivers now for them to want to do it
