Chris,I think you are a bit behind the times —Tin Hat??
Surely it it should be a hard hat and hi-viz jacket, remember “Elf & Safety” rules now ,I don’t know how so many of us made it to retirement without “Elf & Safety” other than our own common sense.

After 40 odd years paying in I want something back , whether they bleat or not, and there is a hell of a lot of the UK’s present population who have paid absolutely nothing in to the countries coffers ,so as far as I am concerned , those of our generation who paid for all those years want as much back as they can get.
Sorry , Chris , it’s not a rant,but I feel we are entitled to it.[/
Cheers Bassman

Yes indeed. I don’t necessarily “want something back”, what I do object to is the constant bleating about the country not being able to afford the old folk.
49 years I paid my dues and demands, every month, on time. That was the deal, I paid my dues, now the government should honour their part of the deal. Now…we are a burden.
Well stuff 'em, I intend to live a long and happy retirement.
And if the government of the day thinks money is getting a bit tight, stop giving away the £11 BILLION (yes, billion) a year in foreign aid. Look after our own country and our own people.
Sorry Oily, I’m ranting off topic. I’ll behave.
Best wishes Kev…where’s the ■■■■ up tonight?
Chris & Kev,
Where do I sign up for your “Oldies in Need” campaign?
After paying in to the system for fifty years without a moan (well, perhaps a little moan, now and then) I reckon we should be first in the queue to receive any handouts that are available. Now Gorgeous George tells us that we were not in fact investing in our own future but paying into a fund for those who come after us. What a load of cobblers! We are still paying for the ineptitude of governments over the last few hundred years.
Our esteemed chancellor’s home is only about three miles from mine- I’m very tempted to go round and pay him a visit. Just to put him in the picture, you understand.
Oh, and by the way, may I wish a very long and happy retirement to anyone whose last working day it may be?

Here’s a few pointers…
Cheers

Now that you have possibly ,never say never, parked up for the last time, probably feeling a bit sad just remember that what you do from today on is up to you and your family.
I found it took a while to switch off, and I must admit I don’t, want to leave transport completely it was after all a large part of my life.
One of the best feelings is to be able to say no, not today and not be worried about any recriminations from bosses or traffic planners.
This is what you,be been working towards ,for all those years, your own life , now go ahead and enjoy it.
Cheers. Bassman

Those few pointers are good advice.
I worked for 49 years, never got used to it. I retired and within two weeks I’d taken to it like a duck to water. I never thought I would be able to handle retirement,… how wrong I was.
And remember Kev, you’ve done your bit, what’s left now is yours, YOU choose what you do , when you do it.
