That GEC van picture is doubly worrying elfin safetywise, They aren’t even proper stepladders the blokes are using, and they’ve had to climb another ladder with those to get there.
Never mind about the steps, they aren’t even wearing Hi-Viz!!! Now surely that’s asking for trouble, they could get struck by a low flying aircraft?
One of Cedric Aboods’ Fodens, I’d guess (old) Hume Hwy. I used to drop pallets at their Northmead depot from time to time for interstate, they were a very well known and respected outfit. DIG can tell you more than me.
Park Royal21 and SDU you blokes have got it well covered I.m not familiar with either company so I.m pleased to be able to sit back and learn a little more history of transport here in OZ.
Cheers Dig
Hello Buzzer …stunning shot of D Austin Jones from Llanmorlais on the Gower …this was a big Atkinson fleet engaged on steel and also the 3m plant at Gorseinon .
My father tells me that a regular job was bottle tops from Metal Closures in Swansea …hauled up to Scotland for whiskey distilleries …great stuff …Geraint
Your welcome KB nearly put that on the Welsh site, anyways here is a special edition for DIG & his comrades down under to see if they know ought about this company, Buzzer
If anyone who watched the Ridley Scott film Aliens and wondered about the armoured vehicle that was used by the Marine unit in the film then it was cleverly transformed from a Hunslett ATT77 Aircraft tug, one of four built in Leeds in 1968 for BOAC. It’s believed the vehicle was scrapped however sometime in 2000. Franky.

Thanks Buzzer although Penrith is the other side of the planet for us inWA I.m thinking purely a guess but all those vintage Fodens probly worked on the Snowy River scheme certainly a lot closer than WA. .Over to my learned colleagues.

Ha ha Dig, I’m hastily, but unsuccessfully looking around for a learned colleague.
BMG are a Western Australian mining mob, I don’t know if they’re the same BMG in the pictures. Did BMI (Blue Metal Industries) have any link to them, I wonder. The livery is similar IIRC.
I think the last picture is NZ.

I would agree about the Kiwi thats Buzzer throwing us a leg break I.m thinking a Leyland Hippo possibly powered by a 690 with heavy duty hub reduction., all the Fodens with number plates are NSW the 10 wheeler is different doubt it would be air lift, I haven’t come across BMG.

While on things down under, does anyone remember Luya Julias? I remember seeing them around Brisbane in the 70’s.
Didn’t Finemores take them over? They were part of the Swire group. They had a yard on Leroyd Rd, near Beaudesert Rd., before that they were in Butterfield Rd Herston, may have moved after being hit by the '74 flood.

Yes I remember them, I called them for a job during my progress north through Queensland. If I am not confusing them with another firm I think they had Leyland Ottos with a drawbar trailer. They were, in my memory, on some sort of local contract and possibly in dark, maroon type colours.
But I am thinking futher north than Brisbane, possibly Rockie? And I think someone told me that the founder was a Maltese immigrant.

Do I get the prize?
That would have been them David, they had seasonal sugar carting contracts.
They also did bulk grain, bagged flower, FCL, LCL and general wharf and carrying, amongst other work I’d imagine.
So yes, you do get the prize; help yourself to any beverage in your fridge.
WOW Oily you have hit page 900 with your thread a milestone for sure especially now we have the Australian crew on board, internet is a game changer, Buzzer.
